Well considering the economy of Algiers was based on the slave trade and goods pirated by the Barbary pirates and had been threatened by many nations, and at war with some, several times, and was ruled by Muslims it seems logical to blame what happened there on Muslims. The debts and the ongoing games played out were just an ongoing progression of the corrupting influence of the religion whereby slaves were divinely approved of and taking Christians was fair game. Or is an economy based on slaves just a product of the times when slavery was a common condition for many humans and non Muslims in North Africa were especially at risk. 

Slavery is, arguably, one of the preeminent expressions of Capitalism - Labour that you only have to pay once for; much cheaper than even Minimum Wage labour in India (where even a highly skilled employee can be had for £203 pcm).

It's not democracy that causes a good society, it's a good society that causes (allows) democracy.

Democracy can also 'outstay its welcome' in that the realities on the ground can make it unworkable and yet it continues on like a hollow, incompetent pantomime

Democracy had its cultural antecedents in English and Scottish common culture long before the legalities you mention here. The legal formalising came after (and as a result of) the organic creation of cultural democracy. Many lesser cultures went ass-over-tit by trying to put the cart before the horse.

The central characteristics of capitalism include capital accumulation, competitive markets, price systems, private property, property rights recognition, voluntary exchange, and wage labor. 

Slavery has more to do with Communism than Capitalism.

Capitalism puts 2,102,400 people in the ground EVERY year JUST due to starvation.
Globally we produce enough food to feed the global population with room to spare - yet because of capitalism's desire for profit above all 1person globally dies every 15 seconds because of starvation.

In the US there are 15 Million empty homes, but only 653,000 homeless people - those homes sit empty because of one reason - the ideology of Capitalism.

According to the World Bank (that bastion of socialism) 700 Million people live in extreme poverty - that's Capitalism.

Poverty is being driven by the wealth gap; with the top 1% of the British Population holds more wealth than 70% of the British Population (Source) - that's Capitalism.
