read the thread. So many englishmen do a lot of talking about my nation for something they tell us doesnt matter.
You must be sweating at the thought of us laughing at you.
The French do thier talking on the pitch , while the englishman looks over to see if he has scotlands approval.
I know that smile means you're not serious. Who says scot's don't have a sense of humour. Buccy , i dont want to hear any of your excuses mate.
We can agree southgate is a muppet with an career emphasised with failure. You canne just blame southgate though. You had one of the best managers in world football , with a decorated medal laden career at the highest level , and he coudnt make gold from a base metal.
England dont have the flair of the south americans. You dont have the technical ability of the spanish and italians. You dont have the eccentric brillaince of the French. Nor the dour winning mentality of the germans. Face it mate you are marginally in front of the mighty scotland but still on our level. A championship side of international football.
The very fact you take the time to reply to my posts as you know im telling the truth on all fronts shows exactly what i mean. A scotsman opinion on how crap england are matters dearly to you.
You must sweat after every game on wether or not we scots will give your performances a thumbs up or down.

i dont think i could summarise barrows work in a post or even a thread on this or any other forum. I can only suggest reading up on him.
What im challenging is the myth that braveheart was all bollocks and thus must be dismissed as holly wood fantasy. Much of it is based on truth , other parts like princess isabella fantasy.
If you think if it as warring french nobles on both sides using saxon gael and welshmen as cannon fodder in their internal fighting , with flemish and bretons thrown into the mix for good measure , you will get part of the picture.
Scotland had been a nation since probably the 9th century , ,some 450 years before the events depicted , but plantaganets attempts to takes scotland into his kingdom merely reinforced the growing sense of scottish identity and nationhood.
The basic picture the film presented are based on historical fact .
A person not wise enough to realise he's out of his depth might counter with... The main premise of the film was that Braveheart was a champion for the ''Freedom'' of the poor downtrodden Scottish people when in fact he was a minor noble with a keen military mind hoping to advance his position all the way up to King of Scotland. Braveheart the name was nothing to do with william wallace in real life, but a description of rober the bruce , the real hammer of the english. The braveheart bit was a description in later centuries of bruces dying wish to have his heart taken on a crusade in a casket by his henchman the black douglas , who duly obliged years after bruces death when he fought the moors in spain.
The film though was about freedom of the scottish people from a foreign king , a feat that never ceases to grate certain folk in yor country.
we discussed this straw man earlier. Only you suggest he wasnt a minor noble. Neither i , nor the film or anyone else does.
Rubbish. He could never have become king of scotland because under the old tanist system , and the newer primogeniture of the normans in scotland , he neither had the bloodline nor relationship to the main families to gain the throne. The idiea you suggest he was some schemeing minor noble isnt born out by the fact he renounced his title as guardian. So much for a power hungry man!
what personal ambition was that? If you have written documentation of his personal ambition from the late 13th century i would dearly love to see it , but so far we have nothing more than an english attempt to tar an historical figures name .
Robert bruce didnt betray him. He was betrayed to the english by menteith , the lord of dumbarton castle. It was the english brutal execution of him that spurred bruce on to gain vengeance and set scotland up in arms.
Are you talking about the schiltrom formations against heavy horse? As modern historians put it , the equivalent of men with rifles facing down tanks. The scottish learned that from the flemish and their wars with the french.
How so ? the welsh bowmen were used against the scottish at bannockburn , and scotland still won. After agincourt , the scots saved france at bauge , and stemmed the english advance so much that the scottish soldier is still celebrated in France to this day.
De gaulle said it best in this speech....
Speech delivered by General de Gaulle at Edinburgh, 23rd June 1942
I do not think that a Frenchman could have come to Scotland at any time without being sensible of a special emotion. Scarcely can he set foot in this ancient and glorious land before he finds countless natural affinities between your country and ours dating from the very earliest times. In the same moment, awareness of the thousand links, still living and cherished, of the Franco-Scottish Alliance, the oldest alliance in the world, leaps to his mind.
In every combat where for five centuries the destiny of France was at stake, there were always men of Scotland to fight side by side with men of France, and what Frenchmen feel is that no people has ever been more generous than yours with its friendship

I'm no fan of Southgate Balmy. Yet, his negative safe-guard approach still condemns the jocks to irrelevance. You go and cheer on the French for cattle-tick reasons, you've nobody else to support - that chip on your shoulder ensures England live rent free in scottish heads. You do understand with that chip on your shoulder, that if it had not been for the Scottish economy in 1976 and energy rich Scotland was on it's merry own. Bankrupt England would still be a third world basket case economy in the hands of the IMF. The sick man of Europe. Where it is now. Dragging energy rich Scotland with it. And over the last 40 or so years. Energy rich Scotland has contributed some £222 billion to the UK economy more than it has taken out. And since the SNP took power they have underspent every year. Unlike bankrupt England with its £2.8 trillion debt. Covid and Brexit not yet included. Yes that really is £2,800,000,000,000 and rising at over £5,000 per second. That's around £45,000 per citizen, that's me or £77,000 per tax payer, that's me paying for subsidy junkies like you who cannot live within their means. And with your chip on your shoulder. How do you work out the Scots have no one to support. You are very long on stupid statements. Rather short on sensible answers. I will ask you again as you have had a 100% failure on answering. Would you care to correct any of that. What was that about rent free. www.theneweuropean.co.uk/paul-mason-the-effects-of-brexit-on-britain/www.economicshelp.org/blog/132993/economics/uk-imf-crisis-of-1976/www.gov.scot/publications/foi-19-02227/

Couldn't care less bout politics. All I'm concentrating on is England's game against Senegal.
We certainly have the quality to best them, but it won't be a walk in the park. We haven't played any good teams yet so this will be a big test.
Senegal have never failed to reach the quarter finals.
We now have an embarrassment of riches on the bench and the best chance ever to win the cup.
Also just wanted to say, Wales did not exit he World cup with their heads held high.
They were abysmal! Getting beaten by IRAN FFS! embarrassing

At the minute my money is on a Spain Brazil final. Over the years when England is playing international football. I have to switch of the commentary. But it has been quite fair so far. Not the usual shite. I agree England should beat Senegal. But then Iceland, and more recent, like last night, Japan spring to mind. And now straight knock out. Best game so far for me was last night with Japan and Spain. I lost track of the maths. It changed by the minute. I agree with Ally McCoist. The ball was out of play just before Japan scored the second goal. That did not take away the passion Japan played with.
