Has anyone seen this? World "soft power" ranking. 1) France 80.28 2) UK 79.47 softpower30.com/--"In this new context, soft power – the ability to achieve objectives through attraction and persuasion – is crucial to the effective conduct of foreign policy."-- This comment appears to ignores the high need for influence from within, which takes us back to the reason for opening this thread in the first place. Unless this country can tap into the brilliant innovative brain power it has shown in the past, that appears to be lying somewhat dormant at the present time, it is likely to sink into the position of just another also ran.

Thanks, I enjoyed a chuckle at the juvenile nature of your post. Giggle as much as your want . It doesn’t refute it. I don't 'giggle' that looks like projection on your part. Your nonsense refutes itself.

There may be some rethinking on your part, but no back peddling on mine. My "ilk" --- moderate, fair and justified capitalism? seems OK to me. Your pre-judging of my posts might appear to refute it. Just comparing my musical successes with those of your mates. Yes there is . You whined about using the term ‘ your ilk’ then falsely redefined it . That’s typical of your ilk. Nope..your posts seem to refute it . I repeat..so what ? LOL. goodness knows how you ever managed to pass the 11+.

So you failed the 11+ see2 ? Not exactly, you see I never sat the 11+. The main reason being that because of hearing difficulties that were not addressed at that time I lost interest in education. My education began in earnest after I left state education. Night school, private education, College and eventually some time at University was the path I followed. After some 20 odd years as a trained engineer I retrained into a professional position, that being the best move I ever made. How about you, how did your education go? and where did you end up? See2, like the vast majority of kids, including me btw, you didn't pass the 11+, no biggie. I never felt disadvantaged, it never held me back. I wasn't particularly clever, I was C stream all the way through senior school. Or to put it another way, absolutely average. I think bright kids should have the opportunity of grammar school, I also think too many muppets go to university these days, another discussion perhaps.

Despite my hearing problems I passed through senior school at B grade. I came joint top in one Intelligence test (at age 10) and second in a later intelligence test (at age 12). My problem was the day to day classroom difficulties caused by my faulty hearing which although poor at best, were sometimes worse than at other times. I have no problem with Grammar school education, I do see problems with the 11+ method of selection.

On the current trajectory, there will be no European nation in the worlds top ten leading economies by 2035 (World Bank / Goldman Sachs "Brics And Beyond") web.archive.org/web/20111203044446/http://www.goldmansachs.com/our-thinking/brics/brics-and-beyond-book-pdfs/brics-full-book.pdfBy 2050 the UK will have slipped to position 16 in the worlds leading economies, with Brazil, Nigeria, Turkey, Indonesia and Mexico all above us. THe developing world is fast becoming developed, and the worlds economic superpowers of the future are China, India and the United States. The way forward for the UK, and the ONLY way to produce and create great, world beating ideas and products is to co-operate and work in colaboration with Europe. Concorde, the Eurofighter, AirBus, Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier, atomic research ( particle colider CERN ), scientific and medical research such as "Oxford Astra Zenica", most of the world beating projects of the late 20th, early 21st century involving this country have been done in colaboration with Europe. Either face reality - that the UK on its own is no longer a major player, or sit back and watch the UK fade into relative insignificance.

"On the current trajectory, there will be no European nation in the worlds top ten leading economies by 2035"
So the solution for the UK is to tie ourselves to the slowest growing economic bloc on the planet?
