It's a source of constant amazement to me why France gets twice as many tourists as the UK.. Because they did the only sensible thing to do with royalty - get rid of them? All The Best

I didn't ignore it. But, Sherlock, income revenue is only one side of the equation, the other side is cost. When you take all in the income revenue they generate, and then SUBTRACT the costs, they have a marginal net positive economic effect of £197 Million. All The Best LOL........ even by your own plucked out of the air calculations, name me anything that you can invest £86 million and get a return of £111 MILLION on your £86 million investment in ONE year. AI stocks?

France is the most visited, most popular tourist destination in the world with 90 million visitors in 2019 alone. This is in spite of having no monarchy. Numbers dropped during the pandemic but rose again to 79.4 million in 2022, a year when only 39% of that number of tourists (31 million) visited the UK. If the British monarchy were to end, tourists would still come to see the history of the monarchy, the way they flock to Versailles which hasn't been occupied by a monarch since Louis XVI, who died at the guillotine in 1793. They might not come for the weather, but they'd come for the history, the scenery and the culture. They'd come for heritage tours and the archaeology tours. They'd come to visit family and eat fish and chips and British marmalade and maybe even as a stopover to France. Tourism won't die without the royals. France landmass 551,695 km²
UK landmass 244,376 km2
UK tourism 37 million 2023, given that France has double the land mass than the UK that makes them almost level pegging in tourism.
I suppose you think you are funny mentioning pegging? Have some respect in this time of tragedy in the Wales household.

The issue I have with those that suggest replacing the the Monarchy is who are you going to replace them with?. If it's replace Chas and Cam with a UK version of Biden (or Trump), Putin or Macron, then I'm not convinced. I mean can you imagine if we ended up with Tony Blair as Head of State?...........

The issue I have with those that suggest replacing the the Monarchy is who are you going to replace them with?. Why do we need to replace them at all? That is a false argument. We have a Democratic (loosely at least) Government, and a Prime Minister. We have the House Of Lords (needs to become an elected chamber) for Advising and Revising Government Policy. What else do we need? All The Best

It's a source of constant amazement to me why France gets twice as many tourists as the UK.. Well for a start you can visit the sites of all those famous battles they lost. And, to be fair, they have got far more of those than we have.

It's a source of constant amazement to me why France gets twice as many tourists as the UK.. Well for a start you can visit the sites of all those famous battles they lost. And, to be fair, they have got far more of those than we have. From the BBC this is what the King and his family do and why the Government allocates them money from the profits of the Crown Estates which despite its name does not belong to the Monarch of the day. " The government has confirmed how much money it gave to the Royal Family last year and how much it will provide in the future. The taxpayer-funded settlement, known as the Sovereign Grant, is paid annually - but is not the King's only source of income. How much money does the Royal Family get from the taxpayer? For 2022-2023, the Sovereign Grant was worth £86.3m, the same as in 2021-2022. But repairs to Buckingham Palace - which is undergoing a 10-year £369m refurbishment plan - and the costs associated with King Charles succeeding Queen Elizabeth, plus higher-than-expected inflation, took total spending for the period to £107.5m, according to the Royal Household's annual financial report. That represents a 5% increase on the £102.4m spent the previous year. The shortfall, with spending greater than the Sovereign Grant, meant drawing £20.7m from reserves. What is the Sovereign Grant spent on? The King and other working members of the Royal Family use the money to pay for expenses related to their official duties. The vast majority is spent on the upkeep of properties and staff costs. Members of the Royal Family carried out 2,700 engagements across the UK and abroad during the year. More than 95,000 guests attended 330 events at royal residences, including receptions, award investitures and garden parties. Buckingham Palace received more than 183,000 items of correspondence. " They never stop working goodwill visits across the world to keep good relationships with other countries , a conduit for trade deals etc , they are heads of many Charities , and not just here in the UK The reigning Monarch is Sovereign in name only, it our Parliament of the day that is Sovereign they have all the power and that has been the case since the Restoration of the Monarchy which was done by Parliament as they feared another Civil War as their was unrest in the country due to the draconian measures by Cromwell.

If the only way you can make a point is knocking down Straw Men YOU erected then you don't really have a point. All The Best
