If yesterday's swing were to be replicated at the next general election (it won't be) - Labour still on course to win, probably with a majority of up to 50.

Wasn't really a 'swing' in the vote though was it ? Labour only managed to gain about 200 votes from 2019 whereas the Tory's lost 25,000 Very low turnout which saw the tories stay at home . They won't in a General election
Still all to play for

As I recall that's what happened in 97, Blair won his huge majority with less votes than Major got in 92.

Well it's a possibility of course and the tories will have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat to get their people back onside .The stay at homers will have to decide if its worth putting their coats on but with a looming Labour government I think they will . Reform meanwhile will increase their vote which will hurt the tories so even if they do come out to play it may be in vain .

They couldn't fill a village hall between them.

Conservatives will then have the only option open to them , Reform . There is going to be a huge amount of infighting after the GE. No guarantee of who is going to prevail or the direction the party travels. Then remains to be seen what public support it can garner.

Indeed, I have heard a lot of talk about if/when the Tories lose the GE they need to go further to the right, appoint Braverman or Farrage as leader etc. Personally I've never understood how anyone, right or left wing, who upon losing an election decides that what's needed is a more extreme brand of politics that's just been rejected by the electorate. With the odd exception (such as 2019) elections in the UK are typically won from the centre ground. After their humiliating defeat in 2019 Labour didn't go for an even more left wing leader than Corbyn, they learned the very clear lesson and rowed back to the centre ground, now look at them. I hope that if they lose the next GE the Tories do the same, whatever you may think of them personally we need an effective opposition.

Imo it’s the Tory’s inability to move further to the right ( apart from rhetoric) that has cost them the election.
