I agree. As far as I know Taylor Swift has never claimed to have more validity for her political views than anyone else. Does her fame as a singer preclude her from expressing her political views in your view? Not legally, but arguably morally. Yes. What is needed is a cultural atmosphere which views famous entertainers exploiting their celebrity politically as somewhat distasteful (gauche) - similar to using their fame to discredit people they personally don't like

Morally celebrities should not be allowed to express their political views if they wish to just like everyone else (especially if those political views clash with your own)? Strange world you wish to live in.

Strange world you wish to live in. I feel that if you think about it, it makes more sense than you are giving it credit for. Such people can still express views in private or anonymously without issue.

So you keep saying, but i can see no evidence of sensible critique.

It has been above. I think anyone (apart from those whose job it is to question and scrutinise politicians on our behalf) is free to express their political opinions if they wish to do so in a free country. You don't. I also think anyone is free to totally ignore anyone so doing if they wish. Not sure there is any more to be said.

People are also free to behave dishonestly in other ways.

Depends how you define dishonestly I suppose.
So lets try again.
This is a famous singer. What is dishonest about a famous singer expressing their political views if they wish to do so (or a famous Egg and Spoon racer or say footballer)

What is dishonest about a famous singer expressing their political views if they wish to do so (or a famous Egg and Spoon racer or say footballer) I mean dishonesty in a broad sense - fraudulent use of renown / position. For instance, I stand to make wedding speech and instead lecture the audience on an opinion. Some may share the opinion, some may not, but i was given space and silence for something else.

No idea what you think your wedding example has to do with why a singer is not allowed to express their political positions if they wish to. Try again

No idea what you think your wedding example has to do with why a singer is not allowed to express their political positions if they wish to. Try again You keep slipping into a soft straw-man. The singer is allowed to express their political opinions and use their fame to further them. They are also "allowed" to use their stage show to discredit family members or whine about their staff. Much of real civilisation is unofficially enforced by mores and standards

Stop evading Orac. Why would it be "dishonest" for a singer to express their political opinions if they wish to?

Why is it "dishonest" for a famous singer to express their political opinions For the same reason it would be unfair of them to publicise a dispute they had with a supplier or family member - they are misusing their influence.
