If I'm honest most of the rural crime where I live is carried out by the traveller community. Dog thefts are particularly popular at the moment and a raid a mile from my home recovered 44 lost and loved pets. They do not nick expensive farming satnav. You have to have a means of selling it. This is organised crime. They even nick huge farm machinery.

Many years ago local lads were winding a farmer up,they weren’t really bad lads just typical teenagers.
He kept warning them to get off his land, loads of cheek till he pointed his gun, they turned and ran he shot them in the backside though he had replaced the lead with salt.
They didn’t go back, though I don’t see anyone getting away with that now.

One farmer who was known for firing off would shoot high, which didn't stop the odd piece of lead ricocheting of a branch and hitting one of my mates in the arse. :-)

TTL, some farmers are fighting back. They have drones and cameras and because gates are blocked thieves & poachers have to walk quite a distance. If thieves are seen most farmers wont bother the police unless something serious happens. What's the use of calling the police when it takes them half an hour to get to the scene. Unless it's Friday or Saturday, in which case forget any police response because they are busy dealing with drunks in Stafford. Which is why some farmers will shoot. Take one guess who is likely to be behind this new crime wave. Indeed. Poaching, rustling and butchering livestock in situ has become a real problem, in recent years.

In my experience the first requirement for anything to do with agriculture is a strong back and a weak brain.

Because some of their machinery does not require a human being at the wheel robotic it is directed by the Sat Nav, especially on the large farms with massive fields of crops, it knows exactly where it needs to be to complete the job its programmed to do

If the Brits had any intelligence which they do not they would go one step further and make it report the crime to the police if the GPS moved from a certain bounded area. The police would thern get off their arse and pick it up using the tracker.

I'd use antonymous drones if I were tending a field. These days you can set it up so you hardly need to lift a finger. Same with fruit picking.

The farmers I know even let the programme work out the best route around the field to get perfect cover when spraying etc.

Thanks for your reply rr I watched a special report on rural crime on BBC NEWS and they was saying that its gone beyond poaching and rustling . They said organized crime gangs was behind the crime and they was taking high tech equipment like sat nav equipment from tractors etc. Has for allowing farmers to shoot trespassers for me its a no no we can't allow people to take the law into there hands. Why am I getting the name Veronica in the back of my mind. Probably not the same poster, but a similar approach to forums and posting…

Nah, Veronica had a grasp of spelling and grammar and would have referenced lesbianism at least once by now.
