I nearly forgot.
Before I gave up the good stuff (sort of) I used to enjoy settling down to a plate of roast neaps and a bottle of Jack Daniels, but sobriety has wiped many of our traditional holidays from my head. But for those of you with better livers and doctors with a sense of humour, enjoy !

Just watching the splendid Burns Night on BBC4 with the Scottish Symphony Orchestra. OK the BBC may be biased but some things it does so well it makes you quite emotional.

Scotch is made from malted barley, but JD is made from a mash that is 80% corn, or so I believe. I don't drink the stuff.

I occasionally enjoy a drink known as a "Dark and Stormy" - which is basically rum and ginger beer.
I've experimented with swapping out the rum for Tennessee bourbon.
I call it a Stormy Daniels.

....but we hae meat , and we kin eat , so let the lord be thank it` jack Daniels borkie? You dont half drink some guff down there in Peckham. You would think with all that whiskey revenue scotland sends down to your treasury , you could afford a half decent bottle of the good stuff.

Ripley quick pointer , but in scotland , the word `scotch` is seen as an insult , and generally not used or accepted in casual conversation.

Single malts are about Scots drinking something that ain't.

I want to build a small platform for my mobility scooter. Nothing clever and only about 2 square metres in all, but it requires a lot of grubby about on my knees, so I decided to call in a professional.
Who has just quoted me £500.
It was amazing how fit I suddenly felt. I have just spoken to B&Q and arranged a delivery of £60 worth of decking, which, along with a pot or two of coffee should see the job done.
The NHS has numerous treatments for arthritis, but I find one of the best is the British Tradesman's grip on my wallet. ....but we hae meat , and we kin eat , so let the lord be thank it` jack Daniels borkie? We can Tommy.
That is why we drink Jack Daniels, Suntory Whiskey, El Dorado rum and such.
And mostly we feed turnips to the cattle.

Ripley quick pointer , but in scotland , the word `scotch` is seen as an insult , and generally not used or accepted in casual conversation. But that's unlikely to scotch the word's use in the wrong context — in cooking there's Scotch bonnet, Scotch broth, Scotch pancake and Scotch woodcock (not sure why I've used leading caps, but it seems correct).
A work colleague born and raised in Edinburgh, who claims to have parents also born and bred there, refers to himself as Scotch. I think I'd use Scottish because I've told that's correct. And I don't usually refer to Jocks, Paddies and Taffies either, probably because I've seen that they're mostly meant and used negatively...

geez peace pat. Edinburgh is probably the most non Scottish city in scotland. They call `tottie scoans` potato cakes FFS. No one uses the word`scotch` in polite society in scotland . It's seen as a derogatory anglified term. If your colleague perhaps comes from somewhere like morning side , and talks with a fucking posh Englishman in denial chavvie Edinburgh accent , he may be the extreme exception to the rule. For the ordinary working class chavvies fae Edinburgh , or whats left of them , the ordinary weegies , or if you ask forum member moray loon what the teuchters have to say , you will see we are all singing from the same hymn sheet regarding `scotch`.

Even when used correctly to describe whisky made in Scotland? I have never ever in my life heard a fellow scot call whisky scotch. not once. It may be an English term that is used to describe the water of life , but it certainly isn't a colloquial term used in scotland.
