Thomas: One argument against Scotland having to share in the UK's debt is that, having been allowed no role in creating the debt, Scotland can't be held responsible for it. I have read that if Westminster insists that an independent Scotland share the national debt, they will have to pay Scotland a commensurate share of the national assets, the majority of which are in England and abroad and must surely be well above the debt. Your opinion? That is a laugh you have towns across the old British empire with Scottish names. I do agree that assets should be taken into account with debts though so there would be some degree of negotiation, like how many frigates or helicopters does Scotland want or not and this get removed from debt allocation. The alternative it to abrograte any debt ruling yet with Spain in the Eu they would block that so Scotland would need to go it alone and then there are pensions etc. I have read break ups are always messy and we have the recent break from the EU to show just how awkward they get and it is still not final after 7 years. Sometimes a breakup is necessary, but it doesn't need to be messy. Do you remember what the Queen said in her 1976 speech to the people of the United States when she gave the US the bicentennial 'Liberty' bell ? " We lost the American Colonies because we lacked that statesmanship "to know the right time, and the manner of yielding, what is impossible to keep". But the lesson was learnt. In the next century and a half we kept more closely to the principles of Magna Carta which have been the common heritage of both countries. We learnt to respect the right of others to govern themselves in their own ways. This was the outcome of experience learned the hard way in 1776." It's time to realize that Scotland is impossible to keep and that the Scots have a right to govern themselves in their own ways.

She said that two centuries later and there was a war from 1776 to 1783, the major part of why that was successful was because France annoyed at Britain's success in other places gave the US colonists men and ammunition.

Scotland has friends too.
