I am very aware, we are all aware that the NHS is seen as a sacred cow that must never be changed and have more and more cash thrown at it even though it never seems to make a difference. I don't know whether privatisation is the answer but it must be obvious that something has to change, especially when you read headlines like this... Failing NHS trust sent 14 staff on a £58,000 jolly to Las Vegas A failing NHS trust has been accused of "slapping taxpayers in the face" after it blew £58,000 sending 14 members of staff on a trip to Las Vegas. The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS trust is rated as "requires improvement" overall by the care regulator and ended last year with a deficit of £13million. The trust's leadership also received the same "requires improvement" rating - link
Could privatisation really be any worse than what we have now?

“It has now been slammed by critics for sending 14 staff members on a technology conference to Las Vegas in September.
The purpose of the trip was to watch demonstrations of a new patient record system which the Trust is considering adopting.
They stayed at the New York New York hotel, right in the middle of the Vegas strip.”
Not necessarily a jolly.

Just to get your point of view straight Red. You are in favour of privatising the NHS at the same time as nationalising privatised water and power companies..... Your rationale is not a sober analysis of the facts but some sensationalist crap on your favourite comic.
There is a serious conversation to be had about how best to deliver healthcare in our country. It doesn't have to be done in the way it is now. It shouldn't matter whether it is owned by the state or owned by private companies. What should matter is how to achieve the best possible healthcare at the least possible cost. A sensible way perhaps would be to look at the healthcare systems in other similar countries and seek to copy the best aspects of those but then in the ridiculous state our media and our small g government is at present, no one cares about the fundamentals of healthcare, all our politicians of all parties and media wish to do is issue dumbed down attacks on political opponents in pursuit of power. And why because that is what we, the dumbed down people demand of them. The old saying is we get the politicians we deserve - we have Sunak, Starmer, Farage, Davey and all the wannabes just below. And still democracy is better than anything else as I fear the US might be about to find out.

Could privatisation really be any worse than what we have now? Not really possible for a lot of Brexiters. They promised a better NHS if the UK brexited, not no NHS at all. See the red bus.

The NHS is great . Its not in the care of patients where it wastes money its in the management of the buildings and the wasting of resources . PFI was one way of passing the poorly run parts of the nhs onto the private sector (as well as reducing government debt in line with EU rules) Im not suggesting that ,quite the opposite in fact
What is needed is for the NHS to run properly and efficiently with a war on waste ,bring everything from patient care to building maintenance back in house and make people responsible for running good departments within budget . At present there are too many people rewarded for failure .

At present there are too many people rewarded for failure . Large numbers of people have careers that rely wholly on the waste and so it's a massive and intractable political problem. The private sector solves the corruption problem through competition / bankruptcy / threat of total failure. There isn't a public sector equivalent of that threat.

Thars why I posted ‘ not necessarily’ rather than ‘ not’. Ive been to a few places to review machines that my company wanted to buy and tbh Zoom wouldn’t have cut it so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt . Problem is that it was in Vegas and not a nondescript town abroad.

Read the OP, which says: 'I don't know whether privatisation is the answer but it must be obvious that something has to change'. A point you appear to agree with.

If it was in Utrecht or Dublin , GB news wouldn’t have bothered with the story . It might be a jolly but there may have been real reasons for the delegates to be there .

If it was essential to have a presence at the conference the cash strapped health trust could have sent one (max two) delegates who would be expected , on return to UK , to cascade the information learned at the conference to their colleagues. At least 12 airfares and 12 hotel expenses could have been saved and instead spent on patient care

For any large business looking at buying a computer system the sellers of that system come to them - they certainly do not have traipsing halfway around the globe to look at it.

Itmight have been the best option . Your post confirms mine . If it were not ‘ halfway around the world’ I doubt that you would be halfway outraged.
