Roads are not subsidised - the receipts from VAT on vehicles, Road tax and Fuel duty is massively over what is spent on the roads. Driving on the roads subsidies other areas of the economy, trains perhaps. What next VAT on tractors subsidises farming. How tenuous can you get. Roads are not tolled, so they are paid for out of the public purse, doesn't matter how. The private sector pays for the public sector. Work it out.

ok Steve , fair enough. I too am not going to get into a long winded argument regarding the minimum wage. Im simply offering my own opinion , and further rubbishing the fact labour are somehow the champions of the downtrodden wage earner. They aren't.They ceased to be that when New Labour took over. They are in fact now the party of affluent middle class liberal homeowners who have done well out of the Thacherite status quo, and hold the workers largely in contempt. They have bought into the thatcherite economic consensus lock, stock and barrel, and are currently run by a bunch of charlatans, shysters, and proven liars. the refusal to pay equal wages to female council workers in Glasgow Steve carried on under Corbyn's leadership. throw muck at the blairites when its due , but lets no paint all that is rotten on them alone in the Labour Party. Corbyn's branch manager , Rickie Leonard , who led labour in Scotland at the time , was one of the gmb head union officials who co ordinated with the labour leadership to do everything in his and the unions power to obstruct and hamper the woman's claims , and then , when labour lost Glasgow council in 2017 , Leonard , went onto the picket lines to protest and try and push the blame for labours decades old debacle onto the incoming snp administration. The whole party by and large is scum.

Nope, just pointing out how important the private sector is. It is absolutely vital that we build up our industries and scale back the apparatus of the state. There are just under half a million civil servants. The average wage is £30,110. That's a £14.9bn wage bill to the taxpayer. Why do we need almost half a million of them? Scaling back to 20% of current workforce and the bill could be lowered to £2.98 billion per year.
With that money we could either pay off national debt, or hire a lot more soldiers.

Under New Labour "for the many not the few" meant just that. empty soundbite for the gullible. That is so untrue. You could check out State education and the NHS for starters. Both for the many not the few.
