I want the establishment to regard English nationalism with the same respect, ambivalence, or indeed contempt, as they do Welsh and Scottish nationalism. so why do you consistently vote for one nation tories? The tories are a British unionist party , and their one nation is Britain. If you support englishness , as you should , then why aren't you out voting for an English national party , that wants to end the imperial relic that is Britain , give the English people their own English parliament , support an English national anthem instead of that fucking dirge that is GSTK , and in short look out for the interests and well being of the English people? I think its because many of you want it both ways. The idea the British establishment treats Scottish Irish or welsh nationalism with respect is laughable. You served in northern ireland , where your brit elite sent you in to put the boot into paddies Irish nationalism with all the might of the British armed forces and you can sit and say this with a straight face? Come on red .You need to wake up mate , and get real. The uk is coming to an end. We can help each other , or we can carry on deluding each other by kidding on Britain is going to last and fighting like rats in a sack. The British elite in London , and that includes your tory party , have done more damage to the English nation and nationality than the Scots Irish welsh or any Johnny Foreigner ever has in history. Thomas, for obvious reasons I cant vote for an English National Party, and if some fool attempted to get an English National Party off the ground can you imagine the reaction from the left leaning establishment, including the police. You only have to mention the name 'Tommy Robinson' and lefties go into meltdown and start organising demonstrations. For some reason many English people, particularly those on the left insist we should be ashamed of being English. I have never said an English anthem should replace the national anthem. The 'UK national anthem' obviously has a place, but it's not appropriate when only England is being represented. Sporting events spring to mind. The UK national anthem is not the English national anthem. And yes, I agree, perhaps the establishment don't exactly treat Scottish and Welsh nationalism with respect but they are accepted which is a damned sight more than even the thought an English national party is. How would you feel listening to the UK national anthem instead of flower of Scotland at a rugby international? This is going into something of a digression, but the UK is not comming to an end. I accept it's wishful thinking on your part, but it's fantasy talk. There isn't even a majority is Scotland who want to leave the UK. Thanks to McYousaf independence is less popular now than at any time in years, the man is an idiot and you know it.

The St.Georges flag comes from Norman England before that Wessex had the White Dragon as their emblem.
Now I am not like the Welsh trying to re-create anything yet the Anglo-Saxons were mainly blue-eyed the first one I saw in History books was Admiral Nelson and of course the later German imposed monarchy of the Windsors.
Like Chomsky said to have an empire you have to keep the largest population down or the whole things falls apart.

Ah, Albion has Greek origins and Alba comes from Albion rather than the other way around. thomas is the expert at this sort of thing. No Albion is latin , and the origins are Celtic , and indo European. Alba , Albania , the alps mountains and much more have similar root meanings , coined possibly originally by the Celts or earlier indo European speakers. The English are neither latin , or Celtic. Sadly I have not succeeded in locating the last remaining copy of Massaliote Periplus. As far as I know, the earliest mention of Albion comes from a late 4th century CE translation from the Greek Massaliote Periplus which was written in the 6th century BCE and used as a source for Roman writer Avienius’s poem Ora Maritima (The sea coast). The Massaliote Periplus may be the first known written source of the existence of the Celts; the name Celtarum shows up in Avienus’s Latin translation. If that's incorrect, please enlighten me.

Where is your evidence? It is widely accepted that the split is nearer 50:50 - and that is without a campaign! SNP support has dropped and you assume that Independence support has suffered a similar blow. Just to show how wrong you are, the most recent Ipsos poll showed YES at 54% www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2023-11/ipsos-scotland-political-monitor-november-2023-tables.pdf The position is not as clearcut as you think it is. Many YES voters are NOT SNP voters. The Greens share the goal and then there is ALBA. They have yet to make their presence felt but they did gain numerous members from the SNP. Time will tell if they become a threat to the SNP. Check your facts before posting!

Don't take my word for it, google it. 50:50 is definitely not a majority but it is a helluva lot better starting point than the 25-30% we were sitting at, at the beginning of the Indy Ref campaign. Here is what you said "independence is less popular now than at any time in years"". In response I said that was not so! I provided evidence in support of my case, where's yours? You suggest a google search, but I won't take you up on that because, I have no doubt, it will come back with loads of Unionist sources. The task ahead is for the SNP to recover the trust of the thousands who left because the party displayed a complete lack of focus on, and action towards, Independence.

Interesting development this as it calls into question the monarchy in Wales. Would they become Prince or Princess of Cymru?

This then clears the decks to do what my ancestors should have done a thousand years ago, drive the cottage burning scum into the sea.

Thanks to McYousaf independence is less popular now than at any time in years, the man is an idiot and you know it. apologies for the delay in replying. What are the obvious reasons then? They don't appear obvious to me , except you are putting the blockers on yourselves voting in an English national party because you are trying to desperately cling to the twitching corpse of Britannia. The uk shouldn't have a national anthem any more than the Eu should have one , as neither are nations , but multi national entities. That GSTK dirge has no place in any nation in the 21st century , and that anthem is hated in Scotland , especially the lines rebellious Scots to crush. What do you mean Scottish and welsh nationalism are accepted? same as you would listening to the EU anthem at an England sporting event. Honestly red , at times I do wonder what planet some people inhabit , with respect. The uk has been coming apart at the seams for years. It is a fact the Republic of Ireland left a century ago , it is a fact the old unitary state ended a quarter of a century ago , and it is a fact unionism is in decline in the remaining Celtic countries, perhaps even in England itself. Who can say whether the tipping point is quite been reached as yet , but the idea the union is in healthy shape with years to go is of course delusional in the extreme. You mock mcyousaf , but this only shows you don't understand Scottish nationalism .Independence is more popular now than at any time in recent years , with support for unionism at its lowest point in living memory.

Norman French symbolism , st George slaying the welsh dragon. I think it was first recorded in a battle between the normans and welsh in the 12th or 13th century? You are spot on about the Chomsky quote.

Something like that. The point is , the Celts were various groups of peoples , linked by language and culture , who were spread from these islands in the west , Iberia , France , through Central Europe (modern Austria southern Germany Switzerland etc) northern Italy over to what is now central turkey. Until the greeks and romans first encountered them , we know little about them , we don't even know when the Celtic languages first came to these islands. The name comes from the same root word as `kilt` meaning hidden . Supposedly the hidden people , in reference to the pre christian druidic polytheist religion which forbade the Celts writing things down. I think it was caesar who recorded that the Celtic religious class , the druids , spent twenty years memorising all the laws and customs to qualify as a druid. To go back to the name Alba , the point is it wasn't the greeks and romans who coined the name , but merely translated it into their languages from the original Goidelic language of the Celts. Then down through the millennia , as I stated above ,it has come to mean many things as the territory of the Goidelic Celts receded , then enlarged once more on this island.

That, combined with my knowledge of how to make PROPER ied’s should sort the problem out. you moan about Johnny Foreigner coming to Britain and not respecting your culture , but you won't respect the culture of the welsh nation? Seems a strange attitude to take John. Cymru , as you know , isn't a new name. Its an ancient name spanning back to the tenth century , as the brythonic Celts stopped calling themselves britons , and started calling themselves the Cymry , (compatriots) in recognition of the real politik of the time , that they had lost their lands in what was to become England to the germanic English invaders.
