Are my fellow posters aware of this? The Mirror and like minded lefties are insisting that Cleverly should resign for jokingly telling guests at a Downing Street reception that “a little bit of Rohypnol in his wife's drink every night was not really illegal if it’s only a little bit”, the Sunday Mirror reported - linkApparently journalists are invited to these receptions on the understanding that comments remain confidential, and although journalists from other papers were present, the Mirror is the only one to go public. In other words the Mirror has buggered it up for everyone, in future no journalists will be invited, or everyone will be tight lipped and say nothing. Well done the left wing Mirror.

As jokes go tis was insensitive, cruel, ignorant and arrogant, never mind resign he should be sacked. RR you missed out self deprecating, this line saying she could do better than me. There’s a joke doing the rounds now If a female minister shared that joke with a religious person at a social affair should she be sacked? No imo, humour can be insensitive especially if you’ve had a few sherbets but in both cases it’s observational In his there are better men than me out there,in the fictional hers never trust a bloke to sort things out, laugh we could be all dead tomorrow if god decided that wasn’t funny. If we sacked every politician that said or did something a bit stupid Westminster would be empty in a week.

Humour good bad or indifferent in a private setting is as described, humour. I agree. Although a number of former police officers were recently convicted for it by an idiotic judge.

Last evening we played a game called 'Cards Against Humanity', absolutely hilarious. Some of you, the more sensible would I'm sure enjoy it. Those on the left who have made it their life's mission to search for offence, would of course be outraged.

As jokes go tis was insensitive, cruel, ignorant and arrogant, never mind resign he should be sacked. Can you think of a joke which is both funny and not covered by the above? Benny Hill was genuinely funny. I don't think the audience needed any cues or the audience mic fed through a compressor so even the tiniest fart sounds like roaring laughter, as per BBC comedy.

Last evening we played a game called 'Cards Against Humanity', absolutely hilarious. Some of you, the more sensible would I'm sure enjoy it. Those on the left who have made it their life's mission to search for offence, would of course be outraged. Are you sure? From Wiki... Political involvement and the Nuisance Committee In August 2016, Cards Against Humanity released two "America Votes" packs for the two presidential candidates: Vote for Hillary Pack and Vote for Trump Pack. Each pack contains 15 cards of jokes about the candidate. Designer Max Temkin said that the proceeds for both packs would go to the Clinton campaign regardless.[41] The group began posting billboards under a political action committee (PAC) called the Nuisance Committee.[42] Temkin named the PAC in honor of his grandfather, a Jewish prisoner of war in World War II who formed a "nuisance committee" to try to annoy their Nazi captors without getting killed.[43] In September, the group advertised on a billboard in Chicago with the words: "If Trump is so rich, how come he didn't buy this billboard?"[44] In October 2016, the Nuisance Committee posted a billboard in Dearborn, Michigan which was printed in Arabic text on a black background, reading "Donald Trump can't read this, but he is scared of it".[45][46][47] An Overwatch-themed anti-Trump billboard was also posted in Orlando, Florida.[48] In the lead-up to the 2018 midterm elections, the Nuisance Committee posted billboards against incumbent Illinois representative Peter Roskam.[42] The company also released a Midterm Pack in support of Run for Something; the pack cost $5, but could be received for free if the customer provided the address of a registered voter in one of six swing districts (who would also receive a copy of the pack for free).[49] In mid-November 2017, the creators announced a campaign, Cards Against Humanity Saves America, in protest of the Trump administration and Donald Trump's proposed U.S.-Mexico border wall, arguing: "[Trump is] a preposterous golem who is afraid of anything. He is so afraid that he wants to build a $20 billion wall that everyone knows will accomplish nothing." It was revealed that the creators had purchased vacant land along the wall and "retained a law firm specializing in eminent domain to make it as time-consuming and expensive as possible for the wall to get built". It was also announced that those who made a $15 donation for the campaign would receive six "surprises" throughout December, including additional cards and a map of the aforementioned land plot.[50] One of the surprises was the redistribution of the money paid, including 10,000 refunds, and issuing $1,000 checks to 100 donors they determined to be the most in need.[51] In August 2022, it was announced that revenue from all purchases of the game and its expansions by residents of U.S. states that have or are "likely" to restrict abortion rights would be donated to the National Network of Abortion Funds.[52]

Yes well this brings us onto the second thing you need for humour. You'll find a good comedian is genuinely very smart. This is how they can come up with a witty reply on the fly without it sounding like a second hand or modified joke. The most unintelligent humour is where it is just vile and distasteful. The genius of Benny Hill was he was a kind of natural, seeing crazy things in quite ordinary life without being offensive, despite the claims to the contrary. So Cleverly has shown his hand. He tried, but all it really says is he's not very clever.
