Someone has autocorrected B E N N Y to Bentley, it now appears our words are being 'censored'. It's an offensive word in Mandarin and our Chinese overlords have made us censor it.

As jokes go tis was insensitive, cruel, ignorant and arrogant, never mind resign he should be sacked. I can almost feel your left wing outrage. What you don't get and never will, is that it is not the joke itself that is the problem. It is what it suggests about the character of the person telling it. And it suggests that Cleverly is something of a shit who has no respect for his own wife let alone other women. And in that sense it is in the public interest that we know what a shit he is, so at least the Mirror was doing it's job in reporting it. And if you were ever to encounter a woman who had been raped after having her drink spiked with Rohypnol, and defended this twat to her, you'd soon find out what genuine outrage is. Because in the eyes of such victims, his so called joke - which isnt even funny - and your preference for attacking those exposing it, is going to be beneath contempt. If one of my female loved ones had been such a victim, and you were to come at me in real life trying to make light of an obnoxious joke like this , you'd soon be on your arse with a well deserved bloody nose. Because I respect women, especially the ones close to me. Doesnt seem that Cleverly - who ought really to be called Stupidly - respects the women in his life at all.

Oh come on Steve it’s just humour, maybe poor depending on your stance. You must have heard of black humour (no pun intended) people who have even suffered or had those close to them suffer some tragedy or other. Its often used to cope with stuff, ask any serviceman.

I take your point. But Cleverly is not some traumatised soldier staring constant death in the face, making light of his situation with dark humour. He is an elected politician, some of whose constituents would have been raped after being drugged with Rohypnol. This is crassly insensitive to the point of being offensive to them. And it betrays an attitude towards women that is disgusting in a public representative. Jokes do not take place in a vacuum. They are built upon a certain attitude without which they would make no sense.

Then for your own sake I hope that you never come into contact with any off duty armed forces, emergency services or medical professionals because the dark humour of all three would obviously drive you to violence.
But then again, lefties have always been quick to violence - as thick people everywhere tend to be.

You never know what people might do,I remember years ago there was a case in the paper (divorce) the bloke got tired of his wife nagging him and so he took to turning both his earring aids off and smiling at her,she got the divorce on the grounds of his mental cruelty Well that's as may be. I would soon separate from a partner who was nagging me, so I understand. I choose to be single precisely because I don't need anyone getting on my case about anything in my own home. However, I could not imagine any scenario where I would find it appropriate to joke about spiking a partner's drink with a date rape drug. And I would certainly not be stupid enough to to express such crass humour were I an elected representative likely to include such victims amongst my constituents. So at the very least Cleverly is betraying both a stupidity and insensitivity that makes him unfit for office. The nature of his joke is also at the very least suggestive of negative attitudes towards women. If he doesnt get on with his wife, he should get a divorce. Sounds to me like she would be better off without him. Public representatives need to be both more sensitive and more intelligent if they are to consider themselves fit for office. But then again, parliament is full of entitled twats who seem to believe they are there by divine right.

My own nephew until very recently when he was discharged for medical reasons was a soldier in the army. I have more respect for the armed forces than you would ever know or believe.. And you call me thick when you have prats like Jonksy on your side, the very epitome of an opinionated thicko if ever I saw one. And you might call me thick to try and get a rise out of me but I know you dont actually believe that. Of course you believe I am wildly misguided because my politics iare very different from yours, but you know I am not thick. If you say otherwise it will be transparently obvious that you are just trying to be provocative. I am one of the least violent people out there. But I would both die and if I had to, kill, to protect my loved ones. If that makes me thick in your eyes, I hope you prove to be equally thick if you encounter some drugged up scumbag holding a knife to your wife's throat

It becomes a serious matter if someone is making a joke to your face about a situation in which a loved one has been raped. Which was my point. If your daughter had been date raped and some twat came along and joked about it, I think most of us would understand if you had lamped him one, lol
