Stripping him of a knighthood is petty and spiteful . Blair will go down in history as the PM behind the great WMD lie that took us into the Iraq war . He will be known as Dubya’s poodle too. He is a political non entity nowadays . He pops up and everyone yawns. Blair was guided by UK intelligence information and the 12 year refusal by Saddam to allow the UN Inspectors to do their job of searching for the missing WMD, into believing that Saddam did in fact have WMD. So Blair was definitely not behind some great WMD Lie. Bush, Blix and Saddam have to take the blame in that respect. However taking us into a war as an ally of the US whose history of fighting 'just' wars is a bit dodgy at best and was obviously for him a stepping stone to international statesmanship in which the interests of the UK populace were pretty lightweight being some 2500 miles apart. It was a stepping stone to his greater glory and was irrespective of any price paid by the British electorate or their kin serving in the forces. Pressing for a rapid reaction force over which the great and the good would decide how to be used was part of the process and the Iraq war a proving ground of that idea. As Prime Minister his duty as always was to the British people and not to playing world policeman when others were hanging well back from the fray. |

The UK armed forced requested the legality of an Invasion and they were given it. If you have evidence to the contrary please post. I don't think Blair should be stripped of anything.
I do think he has never been convicted of a criminal offence, therefore is not a criminal.
I also think that a knighthood is a sullied and devalued award - so he is welcome to it.

I wasn't comparing Thatcher to Blair. I was pointing out the folly of comparing Truss to Blair based on how many soldiers they got killed. Thatcher got more men killed than Truss but that doesn't make Truss the better leader anymore than it made Truss better than Blair. Blair had many achievements under his belt by the time he stood down, Truss didn't even outlast a lettuce but still managed to crash the economy. Thatcher did what needed to be done. Blair and Brown took credit for the past achievements of Tory governments and pissed all over the economy whilst waging unnecessary wars. Give Nigel Farage a knighthood for his services to democracy. Thatcher was a nasty mistake with her corner shop ideology, I suspect her father smacked her are too often leaving her with the need to prove she could have run their corner shop. 'There you see daddy, I am a clever girl, do you love me now? The only good thing she did was to make 'wild cat strikes illegal'. Not giving a shit about millions of Families and children being deprived by pushing them into relative poverty while making the rich richer is typical right-wing shite. |
