The Blair years 1997 - 2007 and in the run-up to the financial crisis and world recession were good years, and those years were the last time everything was good in this country. Things were so good that the term "Cool Brittania" emerged, of a country doing very well thank you, all public services improved, particularly our NHS and education, growth was good, inflation good, unemployment low, low interest rates, living standards rose. People said that it was almost too good to be true, but then soon after Gordon took over, along came the world wide financial crisis and the rest is history. I remember the Sharon Storer incidence well. Blair was at the Hospital for the opening of a new Cardiac center, "equal to anything in Europe" which was part of Blair's rescuing program for the NHS. Sharon Storer made a complaint about the state of the cancer ward, the reality was that the cancer ward was inherited from the Tories, and Storer, as it turned out, was a Tory voter. A complete political bias was revealed when the media made Storer the centre of the news and failed to even show the new Cardiac Centre.

LOL sure you can, I was just reading about all the chaos at Christmas, which made me burst out laughing the media lap it up. Then on the radio all we hear is Christmas songs telling us how wonderful it all is. When actually it is nothing but consumer madness.

And what did the next lot inherit PFI Correct, PFIs that ran into problems after the economy was destroyed by the international financial meltdown. Not New Labour's fault. Nevertheless, the Storer saga should give you an insight into the anti-Blair propaganda that was poisoning society.

Thats a revision of history, Brown had nothing to do with the world wide financial crash, its roots were in the United States, and the contagion spread. Was Gordon Brown responsible for the financial crisis in Greece, the United States, Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and all the other countries affected.

If Gordon Brown says he made mistakes, then I believe him, after all Gordon Brown is an honest man.
However, it would not have made a great deal of difference, look at this last paragraph in your link to The Independent.
""There should be an international agreement, otherwise you'll just have banks threatening to move from one country to another," he said"
Two of the biggest banks at the time in The United States were HSBC and RBS, both British banks, and other British banks were also major players including NatWest.
British banks including their assets in the United States are not regulated by the UK, they are regulated by the United States government, and so a British listed bank which is also registered in Britain, could be at risk by the same bank registered in the United States.
As Gordon said "international regulation"

His admission was made in hindsight. Surely you remember that it was the Tory party and the Industrialists that made a continuous whinge for the removal of red tape? And Brown was praised for easing it? Even so, the problem was the international meltdown. No meltdown then no problem.
