Oh yes, the forum of word games. The reason our country is overpopulated is because we invited millions of people to live here. This country is not overpopulated because we have taken in refugees. Huh? Looking at the context I am unclear what else you could be referring to and yes the refugees throughout the years have contributed significantly to the little ding on teh full sign. The context is that this country is not overcrowded because we took in refugees. Give me figures for refugees versus legal immigrants. The last 40 years would do. |

It looks like Weymouth is more unattractive than Rwanda at the moment, perhaps we ought to lash a load more barges to the Bibby Stockholm and send the incomers down there. We wouldn't need to make up laws as we go along and it would be free from ECHR observations.

Figures for birthrates for mothers not born in the UK are fairly available (the NHS records them), but of course that does not includes births to mothers of foreign extraction who were themselves born in the UK, which nobody seems to have much interest in recording.
The authorities are curiously reluctant to provide such data, even under FoI requests.
I've been looking for it for quite a while now.

Ref the Rwanda vote earlier this evening. I think it's worth mentioning that not a single Tory MP voted against the government, yes there were 20 or so abstentions but no rebels. Every one of the 269 MP's who voted against the Rwanda plan came from Left wing opposition MP's. And incredibly some people on this forum actually want a Starmer led Labour government.

It may be a significant contributing factor. Kenyan and Ugandan Asians contributed about 100,000 over about 5 years, just in the last century we took, 250,000 Belgian refugees and greater numbers in 1930s to the 1940s including Poles and French and recently we took from Hong Kong about 90,000 and similar numbers from Ukraine. In the late 19th century we took many Jews from Russia and the Irish have continuously been able to arrive and settle in times of strife with no need to claim refugee status. Our 'share' is pretty enormous if one includes the subsequent generations and in terms of filling up it is all grist to the mill. |
