Typical Tory mindset The minority who claim they do not watch the BBC, want to defund an institution which the majority clearly do enjoy, as per all the viewing figure evidence. Typical Tory mindset The VALUE of something to those which use a service is not taken account of, only the cost, and the Conservative way is to remove that cost no matter what. This is called "A race to the bottom". They want us all to watch commercial TV, or pay double what we all pay for the TV licence in order to watch SKY. I dont have children, why should I pay taxation towards schools ? <----- Selfishness That you would even dare to tell someone else what they should spend their money on is the very definition of selfishness and entitlement. Not paying your BBC license is not selfishness, it's freedom of choice. Unless legally obligated to do so, we're all free to spend our cash on whatever we want. Paying your TV license is a choice, just like paying for Netflix or Amazon prime. I no longer see the benefit of paying my TV license and will be able to use that cash to fund a subscription to something else that I prefer rather than paying a twat like Gary Liniker his overpaid wages.

BBC announces plan to spend £14.5m on fancy new studios despite licence fee row.

BBC announces plan to spend £14.5m on fancy new studios despite licence fee row. "Fancy" is open to question. They're replacing the Maida Vale studios, which were home to the various BBC orchestras, and haven't been fit for purpose for decades. They were falling apart. Personally, I'd have moved the facility to Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, or Cardiff (all of which have sites which can easily be expanded), but musicians won't easily relocate, and visiting musicians don't want to travel outside the Capital. £14.5m seems a bit of a bargain for a London-based facility, frankly.

And how much was the set for East Enders when it went woke?

I'm not sure that a show's perceived "wokeness" (or otherwise. I've never watched any tv soap,so I'm no judge..) has any bearing on its production cost.
I've visited the Eastenders backlot, and very impressive it is, too - and financially, the studio has been a bargain. The Beeb picked it up cheap in the eighties when ITV were going through their convulsions, and are only now looking at selling it on (but continuing to rent areas) - probably to Ridley Scott's studio property company (is a rumour).
Contrary to what the likes of the Express like to portray, the BBC runs on very tight budgets, and make a pound go a pretty long way.
A few years ago I slipped what a typical per episode budget for Doctor Who was to an American colleague. He flat-out didn't believe me - insisting it MUST be at least five times more. It took sending him a copy of the budget to put the matter to bed.

There is now a whole gable end now in their woke east enders set that is nothing more than a huge painting of a coloured girl.

The set was replaced, over a years-long rolling programme - because of the move to HD broadcasting. The old set (as with the Coronation Street standing set in Manchester) simply wasn't up to the mercilessly close inspection of HDTV. As far as "diversity" goes - it's simply reflecting London today. What do you expect - a mural of a Pearly Queen selling cockles?

Whether it's Queen Latifah or Queenie Watts, I suspect the BBC Duty Office would hardly be troubled by complaints.

They do, when they're worth listening to.

They do, when they're worth listening to. And who might be the arbiter of that?

They do, when they're worth listening to. And who might be the arbiter of that? People with many years of experience, working through several layers of assessment. As with all TV company complaints procedures.
