Disposable lighters, candles, batteries and canned food all great I'd add bottled water and dried food flint and sanitary towels for lighting fires (good old survival tips courtesy of ex sas types)some basic medicines too and means to defend yourself But a radio wtf for, being warm and comfortable with a full belly it’s bad enough being lied to,trying to survive and knowing some lying politician is living the good life in a bunker and lying through his/her teeth sod that. Bottled water is bulky and heavy, we have two large water butts and steri tabs. I'm not talking about a survival situation, I'm talking about coping with power cuts, possibly lengthy power cuts. If at any point we are faced with a survival situation your first thought should be weapons and defending what you have. You might not be but Dowden was anyway if you’re talking about power cuts why drink out of water butts you’ve got plenty of storage at Rackham towers haven’t you?

I'm looking at buying a generator - for about £500 it looks like you can get something that will tide us over in an emergency. You looking at an inverter generator? Ive got two a non inverter calor/petrol one and a small inverter type from Aldi.

Yes good thinking, I've been watching people on YouTube who have had diesel generators installed as a back up in the event of power failure. Of course you'll need a decent size diesel tank which may be tricky for most people especially if you have a tank exceeding 3,500 litres, which sounds a lot but isn't that big.

Blimey this is all a bit “in the event of nuclear attack, hide under the kitchen table”. Can't say I am bothered, the camper is totally off grid, heating on tv on and cooker, bed toilet and shower, stocked up with tins, don't think I have a wind up radio so I can listen to politicians droning on. Bonus.

Inverter - I'd like a Honda but they are just too expensive as an emergency standby, so its looks like some no-name chinese thing off Amazon..

For the benefit of See2 [Other outraged lefties are available] Net zero will leave UK more vulnerable to power cuts... The UK’s net zero drive will leave it more vulnerable to power cuts caused by storms, the Government has been warned by its infrastructure commission. People could be left sitting in cold homes or unable to charge their cars, while heavy industry could be knocked offline if overhead wires are brought down, the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) said - link You have previously posted that the UK has fall back oil and coal power stations. It would be ridiculous to leave the country solely dependent on wind power which is why that will never happen. Wave power is more reliable but appears to still be in its infancy. Outraged Righties don't have the brainpower to see the logical way forward.

Storage isn't an issue but tbh, I don't envisage the apocalypse anytime soon. I don't think water shortages will be an issue but power cuts due to net zero are a real possibility.

Quite obviously some coal power stations should have been mothballed not demolished and we should be fracking rather than importing 10 billion cubic metres of shale gas from the US. Net zero is economics of the mad house.

If Dowdens prophecies of the inevitable impact of imposing 13 years of Tory Government on a once proud nation do come true, Red, I bet you will regret allowing those feral black pudding to be hunted to extinction in those Staffordshire northern fields….

The reason we pay twice as much for domestic energy as US consumers is because the US exploits shale gas, if it was dangerous Biden would not have signed it off.

The Tories have been in power since 2015, I may not be a quantum mathematician, but I reckon that's closer to eight years.

"SSE Thermal's Keadby Carbon Capture Power Station, near Scunthorpe, the UK's first gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage (CCS) by the mid-2020s.

Or do you believe they were easy meat for the Lib Dems?
