Both of my kids partners holding overseas passports live here on visas in their own right and as far as I know they are not currently planning to marry anyway. So no direct personal interest, but it does bring home I suppose just how callous the government is being here forcing our young kids in slightly different circumstances who happen to have fallen in love with a foreign passport holder to make a decision between abandoning the love of their life or being forced to leave their own country. If they were my kids I would be justifiably furious. Just wanted to note dappy that your daughters' foreign paramours might not be completely out of the woods even if they elect to live over the brush. The minimum salary threshold for a skilled worker visa will also be rising to the same level (£38,700; exemptions for certain occupations eg care workers)
I can almost hear the steam coming out of your ears. but do calm down, it's bad for the blood pressure to get so aereated.
You seem unhealthily obsessed by my family Dan. May I remind you of the stalking laws. My understanding is that the new rate will only apply to new visaholders, not ones already here and anyway my guess would be they are both over that threshhold. Calm yourself down and sleep well Danny boy.

I feel for your daughter, the moment her passport lover gets legal status in the UK she wont see his feet for dust, if she doesn't kick herself for being foolish, you can do it for her.

Calm yourself down and sleep well Danny boy. You invite comments about your peculiar family arrangements dappy by inserting their details in practically every conversation here about race and immigration. If you don't wish to receive such comments then stop yapping about them.
As for the new minimum salary arrangements for foreign workers, the government has yet to announce what transitional measures will apply when visa renewal is required.

I wish I had a fiver for every time you've told us about your mother-in-law being a German refugee usually coupled with a plaintive query about what that means for your children.
I'd be well on the way to funding a Caribbean cruise.

as I said - you are (very) confused.. His arguments ran out and all he has now is sarcasm. It's hard to avoid a conclusion that he knows perfectly well what people want and why they want it. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. If you are referring to immigration I am against immigration have been ever since I joined here and before. My argument with Pacifico is about the reasons why our government keep brining in more people despite public opinion. I would expect a mod to behave better and at least read before slurring a member, but there you go. Very few people left on here to argue with now, just this type of crap.

Agreed. The feeling of hopelessness is driving extreme views and now actions. For me this is the "Pitchforks are coming" that Nick Hanauer warned of. www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/06/the-pitchforks-are-coming-for-us-plutocrats-108014/I see pitchforks. At the same time that people like you and me are thriving beyond the dreams of any plutocrats in history, the rest of the country—the 99.99 percent—is lagging far behind. The divide between the haves and have-nots is getting worse really, really fast. In 1980, the top 1 percent controlled about 8 percent of U.S. national income. The bottom 50 percent shared about 18 percent. Today the top 1 percent share about 20 percent; the bottom 50 percent, just 12 percent.
But the problem isn’t that we have inequality. Some inequality is intrinsic to any high-functioning capitalist economy. The problem is that inequality is at historically high levels and getting worse every day. Our country is rapidly becoming less a capitalist society and more a feudal society. Unless our policies change dramatically, the middle class will disappear, and we will be back to late 18th-century France. Before the revolution.
And so I have a message for my fellow filthy rich, for all of us who live in our gated bubble worlds: Wake up, people. It won’t last.
Immigration has been used to wind folks up, but they can only be wound up if they a already struggling. Don't get me wrong Immigration is an issue, but for me it is a spoke in a wheel of fortune. Whether its to cause a housing shortage and drive land prices up, or to keep wages low, or to provide short term tax receipts. But the wheel of fortune has many spokes and they all centre on making a few rich beyond obscene. The wealth gap is growing every year and the only way that can happen is if many get poorer while a few get richer. The sad thing is that the reaction of the rich is to try and protect themselves by hoarding their money and the result of that is nearly always that they lose it all in the end after many people have died. Civilisation as we know it is not some leftie utopia, it is the result of this happening a 1,000 times across the planets history Immigration (the policy of importing millions of homeless people) is the key driver of 'inequality'. By insisting this policy be left alone and we instead switch over to some kind of official control way of dealing with this symptom, you are pretty well confirming suspicions about your own political motives. You need to learn to read. This sentence of yours Immigration (the policy of importing millions of homeless people) is the key driver of 'inequality'. IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID ! The rest of what you say have nothing to do with my points. I said immigrants is part of a whole scheme to keep the rich rich. 1, to keep land prices high. 2, To keep wages low. 3, To keep taxation low. I think I need to take a break from here its become a very unpleasant place with little proper debate. And now even two of the Mods are behaving the same.

Zany, you have been hammering away at the same notion for a while (weeks).
...that, if we reduce immigration, there will be no alternative to massively raising taxes. IMHO Your purpose is not difficult to see.
Pac's interventions were on that particular contention, while i'm being perhaps a little (over) presumptuous and just assuming that you are driven to these efforts by the cause of immigration.

Or maybe I want to stop immigration and see admitting we will need to pay more tax to do it is the answer. The fact I added it also creates cheap labour and a housing shortage, might give a clue to my intent.

I seem to remember you and I having an argument where you claimed that mass immigration was needed because there were lots of companies who depended on migrants and the subsequent low pay to survive.. If you are now coming round to the idea that businesses that depend on cheap imported labour are businesses that we dont need then all I can say is welcome.

I appreciate the nods you make to reality, but they are punctuated by things that just look odd. The other suggestion you made is that we build over the greenbelt - which wont lower immigration. You also have a preference for an even more gigantically bloated state sector and you need taxes raised for that. Raising taxes wont lower immigration, but it will increase the size of the state.

I have never made such an argument. You might have mistaken my idea that many modern businesses only exist because cheap labour exists. But it was a criticism/observation of what has gone wrong. but yes, many of these businesses would cease to exist if labour costs increase. so my argument was against those who claimed they would simply pay more.
