In the second page of this thread, I wondered what sort of people would choose to spend their money to support this "cause" Having read Dan and Sandy and similar posts on this thread, that question at least has been answered...... That seems to agree that not stopping for the police whilst driving badly and being rude and obstructive to officers in the performance of their duties is the done thing and should be applauded.

Perhaps, as a starting point, we could each look at how many times we have been stopped by the police while driving... As a young motorcyclist I was stopped umpteen times and only on one occasion had I ever committed an actual offence (speeding). But on no occasion did I ever find it necessary to behave like Williams and Dos Santos, who are now learning a salutory lesson: You have to behave with respect in order to garner respect. The public have seen the videos of them acting like arseholes and are now treating them accordingly. Meanwhile, the crowdfunder for the officers is going through the roof. I’m 42, and never been a boy racer. I’ve not watched the videos. I assume the authorities did before they made their judgements so, as I’m surprised any officers were sanctioned, the video must have been incriminating. The crowd funding reinforces my belief that this country still requires me to warn my children, like we were by our parents, to be careful in confrontations and to never expect fair and impartial treatment from Police…

Just tell them to keep a mobile phone handy and repeatedly complain that they are being harassed because they are black . The chief Constable will do the rest .

One has to be considerate of one's own behaviour to elicit treatment one would expect.

So best warn them about that. And since the police are the only agency that can meaningfully assist, perhaps teach them to respect the police while you're at it.
Follow me for more life hacks, because you could certainly use them.

The couple of times they’ve been with me in the car they can see that I answer politely and calmly all points made to me. But I suspect if anyone tries to separate me from my kids when they’re in my charge I’m likely to be a little less calm…

We teach our kids to respect everyone. But warning them that discrimination exists is also something I/we do as responsible parents. Thanks for the offer, but I can’t say anything in your posts has leapt out as useful guidance…

Being wrong is something I guess you’re so used to you must misjudge many ways of responding on here…

The sort of deference to the authority of the police that Patman Post says he encourages with his children was standard practice for parents of the previous generation, and even more so for the one before that.
Not just the police, but also all the other authority figures that children are likely to encounter in their formative years, including but not limited to the police, teachers and even parents.
That now seems to have been lost.

Especially Police Officers — which is probably why they appear to have been immune for so long from the consequences members of the general public might get for similar actions...

Perhaps you should have been insulting and swore at the police because then you could get a couple of officers sacked and get your name in the papers as a victim. Its a funny old world.
