It would be nice if those living off the inherited wealth of slavery decided to pat reparations but that is not going to happen. Our country and others benefited directly from slavery, so in theory we all benefitted. Much to say there but not on this thread. Back to Gaza Hamas were the ruling party in Gaza and were the organisers of government and instead of governing they built tunnels and accumulated weapons that broadly we and the EU paid for. |

How will we know if Hamas has actually been destroyed, will it be when all Palestinians are dead or displaced to Egypt or some other country? Is it possible to eradicate Hamas? |

Agreed, the Ottoman Empire would slaughter men, rape and slaughter women and enslave people. Muslim countries were still doing it long after the UK abolished it. It seems odd to find the slavery propaganda used against the UK on a thread about Hamas. What must the Turks think? |

It's already happened at the BBC. I listened to Mishal Hussein's interview with the Israeli Ambassador on "Today", today and it was obvious from her aggressive attitude whose side she was on. But she was slightly put on the back foot after she asked the ambassador what right Israel had to cut off water supplies to Gaza. The ambassador said that it wasn't the responsibility of Israel to supply water to Gaza. Ms Hussein had no response to that. The fact is that the international community have given vast amounts of aid to Gaza but Hamas has used it to buy weapons. One country (I forget which), aware that giving Gaza money was just stoking conflict, sent Gaza water pipes to allow them to provide their own water supply. But Hamas used them to make rocket launchers. Full marks for improvisation, of course, but these people are just terrorists. Israel controls the water supply to Gaza That's because Israel desalinated and drills wells for water. Whereas Hamas dig tunnels, build rockets and kill. |

Not defending either side.
Both Hamas and Likud are part of the same problem.
Both oppose the two state solution and are willing to kill to prevent it.

Their constitution absolutely opposes the existence of Israel.
And Netanyahu is so absurdly pro settler he has opposed the two state solution from the word go.
He was speaking out against Rabin in the early and mid 90's, before Rabin was shot (by a settler).
