House prices used to average about 3.5 times average income. Now its 9 times annual income.
In real money that's £112,000 then, £288,000 now. Mortgage wise. 756.00 per month then, £1944.00 now.
Building enough homes to bring prices down would free up over a grand a month for home owners, dwarfing anything else government could do.
So why aren't we doing it? IMO its the very rich land owners who want their assets protected and they are holding the country to ransom.
Why do the government bring in more people every year? Well guess who gains from the huge demand for the limited housing.

it wont work as well as you think it might.
Homes are needed at particular places. Those places can't themselves really be made.

The two are not linked in my argument. We already need new houses as of this second. Stopping immigration would not change that.

Zany wants you to subsidise raising immigration further with a massive house building program that you and your family will likely be excluded from benefiting from

Perhaps a better approach might be building houses (or rather apartments) to rent.

In principle I support Zany . Not only that but I would like to see a lot of those new houses for rent . We could use this house building programme to tack an apprentice scheme for all trades connected to the industry .

Well quite a few ex remainers claim that there are not enough farm workers . Let’s build more houses for rent or sale in rural areas.

I am not clear in what you are saying, is that we should build more houses and stop immigration? The two are not linked in my argument. We already need new houses as of this second. Stopping immigration would not change that. Of course we need new houses, how many now and into the future is undoubtedly linked to immigration. No point in pulling out the stops to bring down prices when the population increase due to immigration keeps demand for houses high. You cannot unlink that which is the primary driver of the shortage. Take most years we are building about 200,000 houses (I know not how many are lost). Yet net migration was more than three times that and it drives a shortage. There is no clearer cause and effect.
