I don't know what the big deal is to be honest, they've only got to hop off at Birmingham to Manchester, although I can see why you'd want to get past Birmingham as fast as you can.

That's not the point, I have never been a fan of HS2 but it was promised as a complete solution to Leeds and Manchester, a budget was allowed and exceeded to the tune of billions, where has that money, our money, gone.
We now have less than expected for more than expected.

The mistake made at the beginning was Labours big mistake, they began their grandiose scheme in London , they should have started it in the North and gone East and West first across the Pennines get that sorted, then worked South

I agree should have been built North South rather than South North but your timescales are out - Tory decided that not Labour.
More importantly should have been designed a little slower (the excessive High speed was always an ego trip) and should have been designed to link the North through Heathrow and London via crossrail to HS1 and across to france and beyond.

Sunak is talking on behalf of the tax payers, saving money, now all we need him to do is the same with these illegal migrants, he's on the right track then .... track ...no pun intended.

Not convinced it was needed in the first place (and certainly not at £150 Billion). It currently takes just 2 hours to get from Manchester to London - how fast does it need to be?

That's not quite the full picture. 2 hours 6 minutes is the fastest possible, with most trains taking 6 hours or more. Netjets is a bit faster if you're near Biggin Hill.

A rail line suposedly getting you into London 20 minutes faster so you can waste it in Saddo Khant’s 20mph hell getting from the station to somewhere useful….

It currently takes just 2 hours to get from Manchester to London - how fast does it need to be? i suppose it does add to the daily commute … In dad’s early adulthood a research scientist at a London establishment could afford a home at the end of the Metropolitan line In mine my approach for a research job at the Royal Marsden meant the nearest ‘starter home’ affordable on tbe salary was in Newbury Sarah and Jennifer’s early adulthood saw those distances reach Manchester…. I’ve genuinely no bloody idea what Melissa is going to do in five years time to pursue her dream career in acting. I almost hope i’ll not make it to 71 to witness the destruction of her dream

I get the feeling the present management will be having a much closer eye kept on them, if they think finishing the London to Birmingham is still a license to print money, they will be getting that closed down as well.

Maybe they will cut back on the diversity courses all the staff had to go on! Then there was the insect disruption surveys, the possible graveyard bones to move and so on and so on £££££

HS2 ... a commitment by George Osborne and David Cameron, given the go ahead by the same two
Boris Johnson then committed to carrying on with HS2, but then slashed the projects Eastern link into Yorkshire.
Finaly, the entire Northern line abandoned by Rishi Sunak, with unveiled criticism from Boris Johnson, David Cameron and George Osborne.
And these Tory supporters have the audacity, and the bare faced cheek to accuse Keir Starmer, the opposition leader, a man who is not in government, of been a man of broken promises, and of U Turns.

The ability to change direction when circumstances show the original decision was wrong, seems a plus point. Cameron fucked up in government, realised he couldn’t correct his misjudgements, and resigned. He should now have the sense to keep his trap shut and let the fourth PM since he withdrew get on and try to retrieve something from the mess he and the others left and not draw attention to ther failings…

Rishak has said he will spend the money on smaller projects like getting Leeds an electric tram system and improving several A roads and the M6 to start with. I think these projects will be better than the white elephant HS2 has become.
