Haven't we always had the policies to weed out the 'work shy' and those that abuse the system?

Haven't we always had the policies to weed out the 'work shy' and those that abuse the system? Nope. Well there are all sorts of TV programs depicting the very same things, the DWP investigating 'work shy' people and claiming back the benefits that they have 'stolen', so we do have working policies that deal with this. This is another Tory 'trick' say they are going to do something about something they are already doing something about.

Wise to take anything any politician of whatever party says between now and the lection next year with a healthy dose of salt.
I am struggling to see anything new here beyond the same old rhetoric that came out before the last election and will no doubt come out from whoever is in power the one after next.
Few will argue with the principle that there should be a safety net for those who need it but that that safety net should not be abused. Its just really really hard to write the rules such that deserving and undeserving cases can be differentiated.

The current minimum wage is £10.42 so £11 would be a 5.6% increase, which is not much enough with inflation currently way above that. That's if you are over 23 years old. If you are under 18 you will have to put up with £5.28 an hour, which is outrageous. This is all pre-election rhetoric from Hunt who still has ambitions to be PM.

I listened to Hunt being interviewed on GB News this morning. Saying he will come down hard on scroungers seems to be a typically Tory thing to say. I don't disagree with him, but I cant see why anyone's surprised. It would have been more of a surprise had he not said it but it wont make any difference, I expect there will be just as many benefit scroungers a year from now as there are today. I listened to Liz Truss as well, she gave a very rousing speech, anyone would think she was going for the leadership, and I think this is a problem. Too many senior figures in the party seem to be using the conference as a spring board for their own leadership campaign. Truss, Badenoch, Braverman, Mordaunt, Patel, they're all at it.

Well I think what most people are saying yes fair enough get the 'benefit scroungers' to work, but FIRST sort out the illegal migrant scroungers who are lounging about it 4 star hotels, full board, with pocket money and other perks, costing £8 million 'a day'. They haven't done a days work in the UK or contributed one penny in tax, my message to Hunt would be sort them out first, then we'll deal with our own homegrown scroungers.

I agree, and contrary to what Starmer says, the two big issues on doorsteps today are stopping illegals crossing the channel, and scrapping unpopular net zero policies that people don't want and cant afford.

How would you know what the two big issues on the doorsteps are?

How would you know what the two big issues on the doorsteps are? That's what commentators I'm listening to are saying. When people in the street have a microphone shoved in front of them and are asked what they are mostly concerned about, the two top responses are stopping the boats and stopping the war on the motorist/ulez/heat pumps (net zero). Of course since so few people are asked it's hardly scientific, but it is a snapshot of what's on people's minds. And I have to say, very few sensible people will be surprised.
