The current minimum wage is £10.42 so £11 would be a 5.6% increase, which is not much enough with inflation currently way above that. That's if you are over 23 years old. If you are under 18 you will have to put up with £5.28 an hour, which is outrageous. This is all pre-election rhetoric from Hunt who still has ambitions to be PM. We are indeed in a sorry state of affairs in this country when a below inflation, real terms pay cut, for the lowest paid is trumpeted as something generous. Whilst a growing army of pensioners supported by those of us who work get much larger increases in their incomes than the rest of us, paid for by the rest of us whom they are forever moaning about. It is about time we froze state pensions which are becoming an unaffordable burden, and triple locked the minimum income guarantee for pensioners instead. And triple locked the minimum wage while we are at it. I absolutely agree shop floor pay should increase but that's never going to happen as long as hundreds of thousands of unskilled illegals are pouring into the country every year which doesn't just keep shop floor pay down it ads to the massive pressure on social infrastructure, housing education the NHS Christ we even have 10,000 foreign criminals in British prisons. When will you lefties get it into your heads that in this country nothing has ever supressed shop floor pay more than mass immigration. And yes there are without a doubt pensioners who are financially comfortable, dare I say well off. But 24% of single pensioners and 11% of couples live in relative poverty and the UK also has one of the lowest old age pensions in Europe, yet you want it reduced. srb, the illegals hotel bill is currently £8 million a day.

You say about these fictituos paycuts so why increase their burden even further so supposting some teen schoolgirl who thinks that the taxpayers owe her a living because she chooses to get knocked up with a brude that do not even have the same father?

I’ve got an idea. Why dont we ship in thousands of migrants from third world or poor European countries who will work for peanuts ? When the UK was awash with East Europeans the lefties never uttered a peep about his low wages were.

But 24% of single pensioners and 11% of couples live in relative poverty and the UK also has one of the lowest old age pensions in Europe, yet you want it reduced. srb, the illegals hotel bill is currently £8 million a day. I know some poorer pensioners still live in relative poverty, which is exactly why I advocated triple locking the minimum income guarantee for pensioners rather than the pension itself.. And to ordinary mortals like you and I, £8 million a day sounds a lot, which is why people like to cite it as a daily figure rather than an annualised one, but as an annual figure that is £4 billion, and a relative drop in the ocean compared to overall government expenditure which is closer to £600 billion. And if we spent some of that £4 billion instead on the asylum process itself, we could remove far more of the failed ones far more quickly. So if you think that is where all the money is going think again. And ask yourselves whose interests are best served by your anger at these people instead of the ones actually in charge and responsible for everything.
