Lib Dems launch motion to force council to serve VEGAN food at all events as party doubles down on eco-approachLiberal Democrats in Camden Council attempted to put forward a motion demanding the council serve plant-based food at all council-run facilities and events. The motion called for the council to endorse the “Plant-Based Treaty”. The treaty aims to “put food systems at the heart of combating the climate crisis, to halt the widespread degradation of critical ecosystems caused by animal agriculture, to promote a shift to more healthy, sustainable plant-based diets and to actively reverse damage done to planetary functions, ecosystem services and biodiversity.”www.gbnews.com/politics/lib-dem-camden-council-vegan-foodThis is why the LibDums will remain a lunatic fringe party. They aren't interested in bringing the public along with them, they don't want people to have a choice, all they're interested in is forcing people to accept unpopular policies. Yes in this particular instance the motion failed, but it clearly shows the direction of travel and the level of contempt LibDems have for the vast majority of people who do not share their extreme eco views.

I've no objection to there being a vegetarian option, but Veganism is an extremist food position which is a bit on the batty side. There should also be a nice meaty option for those who like it. We don't need to be told what to eat, we just want a choice at restaurants, etc.

I have always said that people who eat meat should be prepared to see how it gets from farm to plate. I have and it's certainly not pretty, if meat eaters did witness animals being slaughtered or processed, I'm convinced many of them would run away in tears and never touch meat again.

It is true, I usually have a few tears before eating my lamb roast with mint sauce and a drop of rosé wine to wash it down.

Lets not forget halal, most parents have no idea that their kids are eating halal meat at school and that's because Muslim parents would go mental if the 3% of Muslim children at that school ate non halal meat, in this non Islamic country.

Would it be unreasonable to ask the Lib Dem’s if council run school meals should be required to offer pupils non halal meat?

Are we certain that our meat, from wherever we buy it, is slaughtered in an any more less barbaric way (if that’s what you’re alluding to) than how you imagine halal or kosher meat to be…?
