Old flip flop again... Keir Starmer blasted by voters as party hints it will back 2030 petrol and diesel car ban Labour has been attacked by voters after suggesting they would reinstate Rishi Sunak's 2030 petrol and diesel car ban if they win power at the next General Election. Labour was forced to react after it was unveiled the Prime Minister is looking to row back on many of his net-zero pledges. This would include the planned 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars which has left manufacturers furious. It is believed the ban would now come into place from 2035 with the Government still committed to its 2050 net zero target. However, the Shadow Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh, has come under fire after hinting the party would look at backing the former 2030 goal.

One thought on the '7 bins' pledge - does that apply to Councils who currently have 7 different bins?

I disagree. MP's who are looking at losing their seats next year will support any policy that may keep them in office, and they know damned well that net zero is very unpopular with voters. You are correct - its desparation, Sunak probably looked at the latest polls and thought that anything is worth trying, what is there to lose except an election. But by been inconsistent, a back-tracker, and having an unreliable commitment to green energy will not win the election. Already people from his own party are queuing up to criticise Sunak, and the motor industry are not happy either. uk.yahoo.com/finance/news/ford-delaying-petrol-diesel-ban-091027463.html( Ford: Delaying petrol and diesel ban ‘undermines’ what we need from Government ) For a man who says its only 30,000 cars and who would be bothered by that, I guess 30,000 would you dimwit.

The wish of the people must always overturn any parliamentary ruling. Green agenda should be cancelled absolutely Has any bill ever been as reckless as Ed Miliband's 2008 climate act?Rishi Sunak's pragmatic new approach to reaching net zero by 2050 was met with fury by the green lobby this week, and their rage illustrated perfectly how eco-zealots are used to getting their own way. C S Lewis once wrote: 'It would be better to live under robber barons than omnipotent moral busybodies.' That phrase perfectly describes the vast phalanx of unelected green bureaucrats, campaigners and 'experts' who, in the name of saving the planet, exert ever more influence over our lives. Much of the green lobby's power stems from the 2008 Climate Change Act – masterminded by Labour's Ed Miliband during Gordon Brown's premiership. The Act originally proposed that the Government should adopt a legally binding target to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60 per cent below 1990 levels by the year 2050. With David Cameron's Tory opposition giving its support, there was overwhelming political consensus in its favour. www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-12546853/LEO-MCKINSTRY-bill-Ed-Miliband-climate-act.html

Only unpopular with the ECO zealots. This is one of his better moves let's hope he gets off this ECO bollocks entirely. And as for starmer who knows he can't keep the same thought in his head by the hour.
