Yes it is a vote winner, though also was unobtainable in the earlier timescale buys them time.

If he were to stop this ECO bollocks and stem the flow of illegal immigration. Starmer and Labour wouldn't stand a chance. If Sunak does significantly push back on net zero it will obviously be welcomed by voters, and it will be interesting to see what Starmers reaction is. Will he dig his heels in and go all out for net zero? Or knowing net zero is unpopular with voters will he try to outdo Sunak and push back on net zero even more? Old flip flop starmer goes with what he thinks is relevant at the time mate. What starmer states and reality are two different things.

Sunak would not dare to interfere with something which is the domain of the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly. Half of Londoners do not even own a car, and a petrol car needs to be generaly SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD to fail the emissions standards, how many people do you know have a 17 year old car. ? How on earth can anyone declare that taking 30,000 vehicles off the road will not make any difference to polution ? FFS who does Khan think he is. It just cost a frigging fortune to send the arsehole to NY. Did he walk or did he fly as if we didn't know. Yet more airmiles clocked up on this total net zero bollocks by those who push for net zero.

Afaik car manufacturers are kicking up about Sunak wanting to add another 5 years before petrol and diesel cars are banned . I dont blame them tbh because they are geared up to 2030 . So I suspect that if Sunak goes ahead with this and the Tories are elected next year we can look forward to lots of Chinese imports of petrol and diesel cars after 2030.

We have basically started the campaign for the next election, which now looks like Spring 2024, as boat numbers will be low (because of weather) and to avoid overspill from bad local elections in May.

Sunak to make an announcement on net zero at 4.30pm today. LONDON, Sept 19 (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will give a speech this week in which he is expected to delay some of the government's policies to reach net zero emissions by 2050, saying the response to the climate change should be more "proportionate." In a highly unusual late-night statement after reports that he was planning to row back on some of the government’s key green policies, Sunak said he would set out an "important long-term decision" about the country's plans to reach net zero - linkWell I will listen with interest although given the Tories record I will continue to remain suspicious. However if the announcement is as briefed and the cost of living crisis is now being prioritised over these increasingly unaffordable Net Zero commitments then I will raise a glass.

"Ford: Delaying petrol and diesel ban ‘undermines’ what we need from Government"
Considering that Ford abandoned the UK as location for the manufacture of vehicles decades ago, I don't quite see why a UK Government would put their needs above those of the UK taxpayer..

You are correct - its desparation, Sunak probably looked at the latest polls and thought that anything is worth trying, what is there to lose except an election. But by been inconsistent, a back-tracker, and having an unreliable commitment to green energy will not win the election. Already people from his own party are queuing up to criticise Sunak, and the motor industry are not happy either. uk.yahoo.com/finance/news/ford-delaying-petrol-diesel-ban-091027463.html( Ford: Delaying petrol and diesel ban ‘undermines’ what we need from Government ) If he were to stop this ECO bollocks and stem the flow of illegal immigration. Starmer and Labour wouldn't stand a chance. Except that we have a long memory and they have been freewheeling and doing the opposite for 13 years. You think the solution is to give them another term? They will still be having all the eco stuff in their manifesto, as Boris did in his.

There is only one poll that counts and if sunak wants to become viable he would throw this net zero bollocks into the trashcan. Flip flop can't make his mind up yet, it's only Labour pushing these ULEZ and 20 mph zones, Khan might end up a useful idiot after all, useful for the Tories that is ... , Khan is going to cost Labour a lot of votes .....LOL Typical righty insult and denigrate. I guess its done to attempt to boost ones ego.

Perhaps aligning greening dates with the wishes of Europe’s major industrial nations is a price to be paid for easier relations with the EU….

At least we will have another 5 years to build the infrastructure to accommodate EVs. I think holding back compulsory heat pumps was always on the cards
