Perhaps aligning greening dates with the wishes of Europe’s major industrial nations is a price to be paid for easier relations with the EU…. everyone should be celebrating this announcement then as it ticks all the boxes..

"Ford: Delaying petrol and diesel ban ‘undermines’ what we need from Government"
Considering that Ford abandoned the UK as location for the manufacture of vehicles decades ago, I don't quite see why a UK Government would put their needs above those of the UK taxpayer.. Quite so. WTF have Ford got to do with anything in the UK?

At least we will have another 5 years to build the infrastructure to accommodate EVs. I think holding back compulsory heat pumps was always on the cards I think that the wholesale abandonment of the whole net zero bollocks was always on the cards.
Initially it will result in electoral issues (as they're all now starting to realise) then unrest and civil disobedience and, when it really starts to bite, violence against politicians and their agents.
And they can't say that they weren't warned.

What about those who’ve just had returns on their investment plans pushed back by at leat five years — and possibly longer? This is a crap administration with fuck-all business acumen when it comes to manufacturing — it’s all about the City and financial services, which brings board seats to MPs but few jobs to the rest of the country…

Nothing is set in stone with this AGW business.

Flip Flop starmer in a flummoxSunak U-turn on green policies puts Labour in difficult position......LOL Senior Labour MPs were scathing about Rishi Sunak’s decision to roll back some of the government’s most important climate targets. Ed Miliband, the shadow energy secretary, said the prime minister was “rattled, chaotic and out of his depth”. Another shadow frontbencher told the Guardian they thought Sunak had “lost the plot”. But Sunak’s announcement, made during a hastily arranged Downing Street press conference, puts the opposition party in a difficult position over what it will do if it wins power next year. Shadow ministers were clear before the speech that they opposed Sunak’s decision to change key green targets, including the deadline of 2030 to phase out the sale of new petrol and diesel cars. They tried to use the speech to link Sunak to Liz Truss, the former prime minister, who called for similar moves earlier this week. Darren Jones, the shadow chief secretary to the Treasury, said on Wednesday morning: “Tory ministers have been signing off hundreds of millions of pounds to help businesses get ready for these long-held targets. This is a chaotic approach to running the country, it’s completely unacceptable and it’s harming the economy.”

Which is great - we now can find out which polling company is the most accurate - Yougov or 'Find Out Now' (no I have never heard of them either.. )

Looks like the Tories have finally found a popular policy... Or put another way: Anyone with an ounce of common sense knew it was popular.

I see the Guardian today reporting that all across Europe political parties that support reducing the charge to Net Zero are gaining ground - have the Tories found a winning policy with widespread support?.

It's probably popular because people are sick and tired of politician's rubber-stamping everything Bureaucrats come up with as though it is the next greatest thing since sliced bread and have finally learned it will only make the majority of people's lives a misery under the guise of it is all for the greater good. Which in fairness it is usually for the greater good of just a very few people. While politicians are told they have to make the difficult decisions for said greater good of the few. Which of course gives them a warm glow thinking the plebs are as dumb as a rock.

Which is great - we now can find out which polling company is the most accurate - Yougov or 'Find Out Now' (no I have never heard of them either.. ) They could actually both be accurate. They are asking two different questions, one is about the policy, and one is about likelihood of voting for Sunak based on it. I wasn't contradicting your poll, merely putting in a new point of view. If you look at the numbers you can see how they correlate.

Which of course new labour must come out and say is very, very bad, giving the plebs a hope of a little rest from them is bad, very bad for them. Because it is all for the greater good and the Tories have stepped out of line with other worldly gods. Expect a U-turn at the first opportunity.

I think it's been obvious for years that the 2030 date for banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars was completely impossible - and the same goes for the even dafter 2026 cut off for installing new gas/oil/lpg boilers. Both these deadlines were total fantasy and the politicians who agreed them must be total idiots.
Nevertheless I don't give Sunak any credit for abandoning them because I think it's just a final throw of the dice to win the election. There's no doubt that this decision will have Starmer shitting himself.
