Well straight from the horses mouth ..
Tony Blair says junk food should be made too expensive for the poor to afford through new sugar and salt taxes to tackle obesity - but warns Labour
leader Starmer against 'taxing and spending' the economy back to health Former Labour prime minister urged an interventionist policy on public health He dismissed concerns about a 'nanny state' approach as a 'minority view'
Keep it up Tony, that will cost more Labour votes.
all this and they haven't even got hold of the keys to No. 10 yet.

Labour the party of the stealth taxes, so not happy with persecuting motorists with ULEZ, which we know will impact the less well off more than any one, not happy with that, now they want to punish the less well off with even more sugar/salt stealth taxes, don't you just love these multimillionaires telling us what's best for us, I remember when Tony didn't have a pot to piss in, amazing what these wars do for bank accounts.

These are "Interventionist Taxes" that people do not have to pay, which is why they are a good idea, as opposed to taxes that people cannot avoid.
It is now over five years since the Sugar Tax was introduced on fizzy drinks with a high sugar content, no mass protests, no manufacturers in revolt, and no political effects.
Most manufacturers did not stop producing products, but instead reduced the sugar content to below the Sugar Tax threshold.
Such products included Barrs Iron Brew - Robinsons - Britvic - Fruit Shoot - Ribena and Lucozade
SUCCESS .... A policy recommended to a Tory government by the medical world, and it has worked
So now, bring on similar policies for high fat content, and if the example of the Sugar Tax is anything to go by, it will cause producers and manufacturers to act and reduce fat and salt.

Great so what you and Labour are basically advocating that the less well off (poor) people should not have cars so they can avoid the ULEZ tax, and they should just eat fruit and veg, because nearly 99% of food has either salt or sugar ..... well the poor and the less well off will welcome those taxes with open arms ...... NOT

I have a proposal..
Everyone on Job seeker's allowance should have to turn up for physical exercise every day at 7am. They will also be issued with personalised food vouchers that can be only exchanged by them for non-junk food.

Oh ffs are you for real? This is yet another tax on the poor, I thought you were supposed to a lefty? 'Interventionist' taxes only effect the poor. Blair is a multi millionaire socialist (lol) telling poor people what they should and should not eat, and I have to say, no one will be surprised. The left wont be satisfied until they have total control not just of our lives, but our diets as well.

This type of tax is a tax which no one has to pay, so do explain how this would hit the poor, if they do not have to pay the tax, its a matter of choice. Also, if the food industry do what the soft drinks industry did when the Sugar Tax was introduced, then salt and fat in products with high levels will be reduced by the producer / manufacturer to avoid the tax, no one loses out, no one pays higher food prices, the population is a bit healthier, all good for the NHS. Non-intervention is the way to a poorer, more unsafe, less well off, unhealthier society Even moderate Conservative / Right of Centre political parties advocate the "Social Market Economy", if parents wont stop sending their kids towards heart disease and early deaths, then its the responsibility of governments to try and do something about it.

I'm not suggesting people should eat 'fast food' every day, but most kids enjoy an occasional McDonalds, I know my kids used to. This is classic Labour pushing the nanny state, and as ever it is quite obviously directed at poorer parents. So called 'interventionist taxes' do not affect affluent parents.

Controlling the consumption of junk food would save the NHS billions a year.
Healthy foods should be discounted.

Controlling the consumption of junk food would save the NHS billions a year. Healthy foods should be discounted. Take no notice to Blair's claptrap, he wants a tax on sugar salt, mainly effecting the fast food industry that generates ..
In 2022, the market amounted to 21.37 billion British pounds, up from the previous year's total of approximately 19.62 billion.
And Labour want to get their grubby hands on it.
Blair knows the 'poor' will still find the money to buy fast food or junk food, he's peddling his usual tripe that he's worried about obesity and he really 'cares', well he hasn't cared about the thousands of lives lost due to his illegal war in Iraq, .... he's just a fraud.
