Not necessarily. He worked in the kitchen. He may simply have spotted that nobody seemed to check the regular catering supplies lorry and spotted an opportunity - maybe even on a whim that day.

Actually, after a cursory search I cant find anything to suggest Khalife went through the court martial process. Of course that doesn't mean he didn't, and in my experience he certainly would have. Back in January after being investigated by Met anti terror officers he was charged with...
"eliciting information about an individual who was or had been a member of His Majesty’s forces which was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism", and..."committing a bomb hoax with intent". And although I cant find any charges to this effect, he was suspected of spying for Iran.
After a preliminary hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court last January he was remanded to category A HMP Belmarsh, which is normal for anyone charged with terrorism offences. So why he ended up in category B HMP Wandsworth is anyone's guess. Also, it is thought this escape was not a chance opportunity, and that he had help. If that is the case the chances are he was out of the country within hours of escaping.

Highly unlikely IMO. I'd suspect it was organised and the van he used to get out was fitted with the straps to allow him to secure himself to the chassis of the van. I don't see how that could be done "on a whim". And I'd suspect also that the prison warden on that day was also complicit or it would have been searched as is normal procedure. Also I'd reckon that he would be taken to others (fellow muslims) who would provide him with fake identity papers and new clothing. He's almost certainly now either out of the country or lying low in some muslim household that are sympathetic to jihadi attacks on the West. But, as someone said, it may have just been waste of effort because the likelihood is that - with our Leftie legal system - he would have been let off anyway.

There may be a link somewhere, try here - link I listened to a report in which it was said that Khalife had no access to the 'straps' he used to attach himself to the underside of the lorry and that someone obviously provided them. The straps were still attached to the underside of the lorry when it was stopped and searched by police.

Fair enough Red. You could well be right. I hadn't seen or heard anything either way and wasn't aware straps were used. I rather agree that if there was outside help, probability must be that he is long gone. Frankly if a state or quasi state entity were involved to hush him up, I would suspect that he is already resting under a flyover somewhere...
Lets see where the investigation takes us.

When you've finished checking under the flyovers, maybe you'll come up with some more brilliant ideas dappy. You thought he went on a whim, now he's resting under a flyover. Genius.

Heads should roll. The judge at his preliminary hearing in January said he should be remanded in high security HMP Belmarsh which he was, initially. But no one seems to know why he ended up in cat B HMP Wandsworth. I mean, he is suspected of spying for Iran for Christ sake. It has been suggested that the 'security services' may know more about this than they are revealing, and that wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

I believe that escape route has been done before , if I recall correctly by one of the Train Robbers or another well know London Criminal, it appears that the Prison Warders may not have searched it well enough, Delivery Lorries come and go on a regular basis.
According to media it is thought he was working for the Iranians , if so once he was outside he may well haven been whisked away by Iranian Agents he could have been out of the UK in next to no time

First of all he was and is only a suspect not a convicted 'dangerous prisoner'. Second you are guessing as to his alleged background and motivations. LOL superb, Khalife was found guilty at court martial, and subsequently escaped from civilian prison while waiting to stand trial in civilian court. Yet Steve's already defending him. Hands up anyone who's surprised... According to the media he was Discharged from the Army in May this after he was charged with Terrorist offence allegedly gathering information about his comrades that could be useful to another country.

Indeed yes, the normal course of action in cases like this is for the accused to be held in military detention until court martial is convened. At court martial the judge advocate will find the accused guilty reduce him to the ranks and discharge him from the army, he will then be escorted back to military detention until transfer to civilian prison can be arranged where he stays on remand until his trial date. In the case of Daniel Abed Khalife the judge at his preliminary hearing at Westminster magistrates court said he should be held at HMP Belmarsh until his trial. The reason someone who is accused of such serious offences is not sentenced by a court martial is because a 'peace time' court martial cannot sentence anyone to more than two years in detention. Soldiers being discharged from the army by court martial then going strait into the civilian remand system to await trial is far from unheard of.

So no court martial and the thread title and OP were prejudging. Not good after all the media have gone out of their way to call him a suspect so as not to give him a 'get out of trial because of prior publicity' option.

I just listened to Sunak and Starmer's reaction to the escape of Daniel Abed Khalife. It was nothing if not embarrassing.
Sunak's response: There are more prison officers under this conservative government than under any previous Labour government.
Starmer's response: It is the fault of the conservative prime minister, he is responsible.
Both responses were pathetic, utterly pathetic. I thought to myself, this pair are the choice we will have come the general election. God help us.

Your own posts above and my searches on google that match and the fact that not one media have referred to him as being convicted You just blurted out any old shite that came into your brain and now you're upset you couldn't even remotely back it.
