A serving member of the British Army has been accused of being behind a bomb hoax at an RAF base.
Daniel Abed Khalife is alleged to have placed “three cannisters with wires at RAF Stafford with the intention of inducing in another a belief that the said article was likely to explode or ignite and thereby cause personal injury or damage to property” in January.
The 21-year-old of Beacon Barracks, Beaconside, Stafford, had a brief preliminary hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (28 January). Clean-shaven Khalife appeared in person at court, wearing a grey jumper and blue jeans.
He was charged on Friday (27 January) over two incidents at RAF Stafford in Beaconside in August 2021 and January of this year. Khalife was represented by Michael Jones and spoke to confirm his age, name and address.
On 2 August 2021, he is accused of eliciting or attempted to elicit information “about an individual who was or had been a member of His Majesty’s forces which was of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism”. This is contrary to section 58A of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The second charge alleges he committed a “bomb hoax” by placing an article with intent on 2 January this year, court documents show. He allegedly placed “three cannisters with wires at RAF Stafford with the intention of inducing in another a belief that the said article was likely to explode or ignite and thereby cause personal injury or damage to property”, contrary to section 51 of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

It's crazy that the army, or any of the services, are recruiting muslims. It's also crazy that this guy - suspected terrorist - was working in the kitchens with access to knives. But it doesn't surprise me any more - we just don't seem to understand in this society that all muslims are potentially dangerous.

I believe a small contingent of RAF personnel are still based there but it's defo an army barracks, not an RAF base, although the media do on occasion still refer to it as RAF Stafford. |

Link please to this court martial I would have thought he went through the court martial process, why wouldn't he? He was a serving soldier. In my experience soldiers who are charged with crimes that a court martial consider to be so serious they cant impose a long enough sentence (Unless the country is in a state of war) In these cases the soldier concerned is found guilty at court martial reduced to the ranks and discharged into the custody of the civilian penal system to stand trial in civilian court. Btw, Khalife is also suspected of spying for Iran. However, I must dash, my presence is required elswhere. But as someone once said, I'll be back. |

I understand his trial was scheduled for November but obviously that depends on whether they find him quickly. If his escape was an impulse opportunity, then life on the run with no clothes, food, money etc will be hard. If he had outside help working to a plan may well be that he is long gone now.

I understand his trial was scheduled for November but obviously that depends on whether they find him quickly. There's a bit of a smell of MI5 or double agents around. He must have had help on the outside, maybe on the inside, to escape. |
