The Tory claim of £1.5 billion Council debt in Haringey is nonsense, unless someone can explain how the TORIES arrived at that figure, and that the figure is genuine. They've all been helping themselves to tax payers money, and the only way you'll trace that money is by freezing every bank account of the Haringey council, if they don't the fraud will just be nameless faceless councilors. As usual no one will be accountable, there will be no arrests, the money will never be recovered and the guilty will walk free. |

So the problem isn't the £760M, or the £100M, it's the £100,000 what done it? with respect andrew , you seem to be defending the indefensible and throwing in red herrings. The story here is yet again a labour councils incompetence on yet another massive scale.
What caught my eye as a glaswegian was the equal pay dispute and settlement. Brimingham labour did what glasgow labour tried to do .That is fight equal pay for male and female council workers , from the party that is supposed to represent the working man and woman , and unions.
They were told in this day and age in glasgow , it was indefensible refusing to pay equal pay for a woman council worker doing the same job as a man , labour refused to listen, then spent over a decade and millions of pounds of taxpayers money fighting a lost cause , as they have in birmingham.
Labour were booted out of glasgow city council in 2017 , the incoming snp led administration upon advise negotiated a settlement and stopped further court action , and labours legacy left glasgow taxpayers with a £30 million a year bill for thirty years .
If the snp led administration hadnt of done this , glasgow would have ended up the same as birmingham. Its incompetence , stupidity and betrayal of the working class of the highest order by this corrupt bunch of clowns masquerading as labour.
Thats the story. Another labour council , another bankruptcy and total incompetence.
Readers of this site won’t, of course, need any reminding who was to blame for the decade-long scandal in which the city’s Labour council spent over £2.5m of taxpayers’ money fighting its female employees in court to try to avoid paying them what they were rightfully owed.
At the same time, I can’t help feeling a degree of sympathy towards the SNP councillors now under attack from the very same unions and politicians whose refusal to recognise the value of women’s work led to the accruing of a £500 million-plus debt.
It was the decision in 2006 by the then Labour administration to implement a discriminatory pay and grades structure, and the decision of later ones to oppose the women’s consequent pay claims, that created this shambles.
I'm not disputing the equal pay issue, nor the Labour Party in BCC, to whom it is obvious that there are major issues. My only point was the ridiculous assertion by the Daily Mail that it was due to the CE salary, which is obvious it isn't, to anyone who actually read and understood the article. |

Its clear though the labour party have learned nothing for their years in the wilderness. Their excuses wear thin , and their performance at council level as this thread and many others show is nothing short of shocking. The equal pay issue , which appears to be on of the bigger financial burdens birmingham labour have saddled themselves with , has trundled on for years since the days of the last blairite labour government , in many cities. They cant say they werent warned or didnt see this coming.
Its not only typical labour financial mismanagement on a grand scale , but extremely typical of the labour parties we know best attitude . The other issues you mention dont help , but merely pour fuel on the fire of labour incompetence.
I appreciate many folk of many political persuasions want rid of the conservatives from uk government for many reasons. Starmer and his party though arent the answer to the uk problems. The most boring man in uk political history is nothing radical , offers nothing new.
He is merely the continuity candidate , espousing out of date politics from thirty years ago. I hope the people of birmingham remember labours incompetence at the next election.
