It seems these councils have enough money to award themselves obscene salaries and pensions. Bosses at five councils facing bankruptcy are pocketing more pay than the PM with CEO of cash-strapped Birmingham getting wage rise of nearly a third since last year Council fat cats are taking nearly £100,000 more than Rishi Sunak's salary The heads of five councils facing bankruptcy are being paid more than the Prime Minister. Some council fat cats are taking home nearly £100,000 more than Rishi Sunak's £167,39 salary - as Kent, Stoke-on-Trent, Southampton and Bradford all pay up despite facing financial chaos. It comes as debt-ridden Birmingham council, the largest in Europe, faces a huge shortfall of £87million after it saw costs of its troubled Oracle IT system balloon from £13million to up to £100million. On Tuesday, chiefs were forced to declare the council effectively bankrupt after also being hit by a £760million bill over equal pay claims. But boss of the cash-strapped authority Deborah Cadman has received a pay-rise in the last year - taking home £244,820 in 2022/23, the Mirror reports. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12501139/Bosses-five-councils-facing-bankruptcy-pocketing-pay-PM-CEO-cash-strapped-Birmingham-getting-wage-rise-nearly-year.htmlThink that backs up what I said. The £760 million for the equal pay claims and the £100 million for the IT system. But the Daily Mail wants you to believe it's the £100,000 for the chief executive. Articles for the stupid.

Yeah, you and the rest of the lefties would have us believe that, when in reality it's down to corruption, mismanagement, too many top brass raking in huge salaries and bonuses and other perks, that's without their big fat pay offs and pension pots FFS, most of a council budget is swallowed up with salaries and pensions, just take a look at Liverpool Birmingham, they say it all. It's only corruption in Labour councils then? No, but as a general rule the left does not know when to stop stealing, or even to realise that it is wrong

Well it shoots your theory down in flames about councils not having enough money doesn't it? On one hand you state that government cut backs are the cause and then admit to these obscene wages and pensions they bestow on themselves. Many of these councils couldn't hold a piss up in a brewery and all have a selfserving agenda. Councils of all colours have destroyed the highstreet with their draconian parking penalties and pro ECO BS.

So the problem isn't the £760M, or the £100M, it's the £100,000 what done it?

So the problem isn't the £760M, or the £100M, it's the £100,000 what done it? with respect andrew , you seem to be defending the indefensible and throwing in red herrings. The story here is yet again a labour councils incompetence on yet another massive scale.
What caught my eye as a glaswegian was the equal pay dispute and settlement. Brimingham labour did what glasgow labour tried to do .That is fight equal pay for male and female council workers , from the party that is supposed to represent the working man and woman , and unions.
They were told in this day and age in glasgow , it was indefensible refusing to pay equal pay for a woman council worker doing the same job as a man , labour refused to listen, then spent over a decade and millions of pounds of taxpayers money fighting a lost cause , as they have in birmingham.
Labour were booted out of glasgow city council in 2017 , the incoming snp led administration upon advise negotiated a settlement and stopped further court action , and labours legacy left glasgow taxpayers with a £30 million a year bill for thirty years .
If the snp led administration hadnt of done this , glasgow would have ended up the same as birmingham. Its incompetence , stupidity and betrayal of the working class of the highest order by this corrupt bunch of clowns masquerading as labour.
Thats the story. Another labour council , another bankruptcy and total incompetence.
Readers of this site won’t, of course, need any reminding who was to blame for the decade-long scandal in which the city’s Labour council spent over £2.5m of taxpayers’ money fighting its female employees in court to try to avoid paying them what they were rightfully owed.
At the same time, I can’t help feeling a degree of sympathy towards the SNP councillors now under attack from the very same unions and politicians whose refusal to recognise the value of women’s work led to the accruing of a £500 million-plus debt. It was the decision in 2006 by the then Labour administration to implement a discriminatory pay and grades structure, and the decision of later ones to oppose the women’s consequent pay claims, that created this shambles.

The story is nothing to do with government cutbacks. Thats labour councils standard bleat when they cant manage other peoples money .
The battle for equal pay
The Birmingham women workers’ case started in 2008 when the Labour government introduced “single status” deals in the name of equal pay.
The deals were supposed to deliver a common pay scale and harmonisation of conditions for all jobs.
But then-chancellor Gordon Brown didn’t give local authorities any extra money to pay the workers who were supposed to gain from the deal.
So in the name of equal pay, many local councils harmonised women’s and men’s wages—downwards—and cut services.
Birmingham became the centre of the resistance to the local government employers. Tens of thousands of council workers struck. There were also protests in Waltham Forest, Leeds, Edinburgh, and Islington.
Later Glasgow workers struck to win a big battle over equality.

Labour councils , like labour governments , have an infamous reputation when managing taxpayers money. I think borkie up the page flippantly sums them up perfectly when he says they cant control their stealing.
Refusing to pay council workers equal pay though is beyond the pale. Then as normal , they run away blaming everything and everyone else for their incompetence.
15 years or more these equal pay disputes have been simmering , and as ever , labour leave ticking timebombs for other parties and governments to deal with. Scum of the highest order.

It's the same old same old, Labour bankrupt the country, the Tories step in to clear up the mess, then we have years of austerity measures to balance the books.

The snp had to do the same in scotland. The glasgow equal pay dispute also shows the extreme duplicity of labour in action , where they spent years fighting equal pay when they were in power , then as soon as they were booted out , did a volte face and stirred up the unions to try and blame the new snp led administration for their decades of incompetence and corruption .
All these years on and we are still reading about the inglorious legacy and financial mess the last labour government and labour councils have left us. If starmer and his cronies get in , last one here , turn out the lights. I dread to think of the mess starmer is going to make to these islands.

The EU are itching for Labour to get in to power, and they've hit the jackpot if it's Labour coalition Lib-dems, because they know they'll have their allies onboard.
Starmer will make everything about pacifying the EU, he'll tie us in to things we wont be able to undo, knowing full well it's shackling us further under their control, and for his good work and obedience he'll be guaranteed a nice cushy number within the EU when he's no longer Labour leader ... in fact it's the exact same scenario as with Labour/Blair, although they did piss on Blairs chips, they strung him along with delusions of grandeur that he might be in with a chance of becoming EU President .... LOL mug

The Tory claim of £1.5 billion Council debt in Haringey is nonsense, unless someone can explain how the TORIES arrived at that figure, and that the figure is genuine.
