If Labour had fixed them then there would have been nothing for the Tories to do.. They are both as bad as each other Labour knew they needed fixing but that they didn't need fixing there and then. A reduced life doesn't not mean immediate risk of collapse as the 1999 report shows. They planned repairs and then the Tories came into office and canned those repairs. And they kept on canning needed repairs. 'The number of schools confirmed to have reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) and which had building projects cancelled in 2010 has risen to 17, BBC research has found.
They had been set for rebuilding under a Labour scheme, later scrapped by the Conservative-led government.' Rubbish, Labour had a plan to rebuild and the Tories binned it.

I never stated it was all down to labour. I pointed out the fact that all of blairs PFI elephants made use of RAAC. Pfi another short term crowd pleaser that then turned into long term debt madness Even when our grandkids grandkids have paid off this enormous debt the UK taxpayers will still not own them. And even worse they will no longer be here when the debt is paid off or have to have billions more spent on them to make them safe.

Bit of a mystery why build buildings with this stuff IF it was known at the time that it would only last 30 years. Next failing is once the issue was known why the delays in sorting the problem out. Fundamentally yet another symbol of a country that is falling apart - from education to healthcare to potholes. Pretty much nothing works any more. Root cause of that is that with rising life expectancy, its very hard to find the finances to cover the costs that result. Overlay mans climate change catastrophe, rising population s and the internet and it does seem that future generations have some tough choices to make about the inevitability of falling living standards but which particularly living standards to prioritise and which to accept are gone. Hard to see how humanity handles the difficulties that are coming. May well be that the best time to be be born has now long passed. Not a bad synopsis though I differ on the cause of climate change, regarding the population issue which if you add in the mix both will raise the other issue of movement of people. Tough choices you say and that is correct and why we need to be tougher on migration,as harsh as that may seem I suspect and for entirely selfish reasons the survival and standard of life for all the people who currently live here and that’s neither racist or extreme and already it is moving in that direction on mainland Europe though if it is ignored extremism will appeal more. Regarding this I suspect the root cause is the loss of family life that and an expectation of rights to this or that I have seen personally where for instance an elderly parent had a child move in to their council house ostensibly to look after them they and their kids mistreated them and in their old age and misery moved into an attached and small wash house and not allowed in the main dwelling. Social services aware of both and turned a blind eye to both. I’ve seen someone return to the uk from a high profile and well paid job and consign a reasonably capable and able parent to a rest home and taking their and now valuable home as their own,the educated classes eh?

The apologist who support this government ( believe it or not, there still are some ) do not have a leg to stand on.
RAAC was known to be an unsutable building material and was stopped from been used in construction in the mid 1990s.
However, it was not until 2018 that it was discovered that RAAC was in fact dangerous, in that buildings constructed with the material could colapse at any time.
BUT STILL THE GOVERNMENT SLASHED THE SCHOOLS REBUILDING PROGRAMME
Why are the Tory apologists even attempting to portion blame anywhere other than at the Tory government ?

It does not matter what you think of PFI and RACC, Labour built and maintained schools, the Tories dumped that idea as soon as the got in.

I wish I could like this post more than once. I never stated it was all down to labour. I pointed out the fact that all of blairs PFI elephants made use of RAAC. With zero evidence to support your assertion.

Don't accuse others of your own failings. No where in your provided link does it state the last year of USAGE for RAAC. And as for any link from the BBC we ALL kow they lean to the left so their views are irelevant and biased.

So I DID provide evidence, you just didn't like the source. Tough shit. You've provided nothing to prove this wrong.
I said to Pacifico that if the evidence shows me as wrong, I'll happily back down and apologise. But I know that you can't do that.

Tony Blair's mantra was education, education, education which meant everyone went off to university. We now have loads of architects which can work out the stresses and strains on a concrete beam. However, we have very few Brits who know one end of a shovel from the other. How clever is that?

feel free to evidence that ' still being used in public buildings well into the 2000's' just so we know you didn't make it up out of thin air Jonksy doesn't do "evidence" unfortunately. Especially when he makes up so many stories out of thin air. It's all very sad

And her presto I never stated it was all down to labour. I pointed out the fact that all of blairs PFI elephants made use of RAAC. An assertion that is frankly ridiculous as the posted evidence has shown. We get that you hate Blair, you're not alone in that but best to attack him with stories that have evidence and not hijack every thread you can to pursue your obsession.
