That'd be a very lucrative contract for some lucky C̶o̶n̶s̶e̶r̶v̶a̶t̶i̶v̶e̶ P̶a̶r̶t̶y̶ d̶o̶n̶o̶r̶ civic-minded philanthropist. My personal opinion is that it will never see the light of day. Same here but this '2 weeks' idea could work. Any ideas of a 2 year compulsory National Service coming back are just delusions. We can't afford it, it would do little good and the real military want no part of it. |

Deep sigh. Ok Sandy if you really need it spelled out.
Firstly let’s see what the real story is. A think tank has put out a report with an idea and a cabinet minister (albeit not the one with responsibility for this area) has written an article in support. Not the most exciting story perhaps but so far reasonably accurately reported. A handful of goons have apparently posted the usual extreme nonsense in response on some social media somewhere. Whatever.
GB news though needs to provoke anger and division and outrage in its audience and so far frankly this story is a bit dull. So it goes on to report that “outraged lefties” have “erupted in anger”. They may be liars but GB News writers are not stupid. They know what they are doing. When they usually refer to “outraged lefties” they are referring to Labour and Lib Dems and the Guardian and charities and education think tanks etc etc and they know that their outrage dependent readers will read their headline assuming that is what they are referring to this time. In fact all those “outraged lefties” treated the “story” with the big fat “meh” it deserved.
Of course buried deep in the article was the truth but GB News writers are well aware that it’s customers are primarily looking for their outrage fix and will rarely read beyond the headline and the first paragraph. As I say you are an intelligent guy but most of their readers are the Rackham’s of this world and they have designed their headline to deliberately create a false understanding of reality on the likes of Rackham’s “minds”, to make him believe something that simply isn’t true, to lie to him.
As we saw from his now deleted opening post on the other thread he was conned yet again.
There are two real oddities here
1) you would think that the Rackham’s of this world who recognise that they have yet again been lied to, conned and made to look silly by a news outlet would think “feck that. I won’t let them do that to me again” but no he’ll be back for more tomorrow and no doubt will be lied to conned and made to look stupid yet again. Most odd.
2) you Sandy are not dumb. You know exactly what game GB News are playing yet in this thread you have played dumb , pretended not to understand and made yourself look silly. Most odd. I have noticed this as a recent trend in you on this forum. I hope you are OK.

My point was it was not more misleading than most other news headlines and was not a specific lie, it used the language of the MSN to draw attention to its story the basic facts of which are correct and not a lie as you indicated. The language was designed as all news articles and headlines are designed to get attention and I accept, and did accept, that. I am at a loss as to why you would single out a GB News article when inflammatory and misleading language is the very essence of news reporting in all corners of the MSN The throwaway descriptive term far-right is bandied about almost daily by the MSN, and some mayors, to describe a multitude of beliefs of what is in effect just a sizeable chunk of the electorate who raise objections and questions to policies. Deniers, Covidiots, flat-earthers, conspiracy theorists as descriptive terms all play their part. So I ask again what was the lie? If the selection of language is 'the lie' then we should point our fingers across the board but you do not, there is a selective outrage, no different to your accusations against GB News. |

More often than not, "emotionally neutral", "amused", or "rolling their eyes at the sheer predictability of the way the right wing news outlets are presenting this story" would be more accurate.
The only people on here I ever see who DO seem to permanently exist in a state of "outrage" are Mr Rackham and his ilk.

To see examples of outraged lefties one only has to tune into the BBC who are more than happy to promote Woke, BLM, Extinction Rebellion, Labour, Just Stop Oil, and of course men in dresses. Personally Walter, I am very rarely outraged I don't need to get outraged, if some dickless clueless lefty bawls in my face I bawl back. And have you noticed that outraged lefties rarely show outrage if they are on their own, they need the support of likeminded dickless clueless outraged lefties. Bit like you & Dappy, who should imo get a room.  |
