Large swaithes of the population would never accept any form of conscription in peace time
General Election: My guess is a Labour majority, but possibly not with the kind of majority the polls are currently projecting.

I can't see how it's any different to the National Citizenship Service - which is already running (and, I assume - based upon knowing a number of friends whose kids have done it - pretty successful). Unless Ms Mordaunt's idea is something more Old School, of course - rising at six, saluting the flag while singing God Save The King, and heading off on a 10k march before coming back to a bracing cold shower and a bowl of porridge.. That would be a culture shock for the entitled youth of today. Nothing wrong with a bit of character building. School of hard knocks and all that. Years ago during both worlds wars we saw young men lie about their age to fight the enemies..They were built of sterner stuff then than the molliecoddled youth of today. |

That'd be a very lucrative contract for some lucky C̶o̶n̶s̶e̶r̶v̶a̶t̶i̶v̶e̶ P̶a̶r̶t̶y̶ d̶o̶n̶o̶r̶ civic-minded philanthropist. My personal opinion is that it will never see the light of day. Clearly this is not 'national service' as many people will remember it. It's more of a National 'Youth' Service designed to instil a bit of discipline and self confidence I suppose, not a bad idea. Obviously lefty snowflakes and no doubt lefty human right lawyers will ensure it doesn't stand a chance of getting off the ground. |

I thought the article quoted some of the comments. So I would not say it is a lie so I am not clear why you say it is. We do not know if they have overegged but then they are certainly not alone amongst any news outlet that has done/does that |

I am not sure why it was misleading to any greater extent than most newspaper headlines. There were people 'erupting in anger ' at the plan. There seems to be evidence these were lefties. The article did not publish all the comments but selected a few to illustrate the point we assume. It was not a lie as even if it was just two people then that is enough. So I am not clear what your gripe is other than it was GB news which seems to raise the hackles on some. |
