Maybe they don't have a law like our conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace one. Burning any artefact large numbers of people hold dear just to make them angry is a somewhat shitty thing to do. Is large numbers important there or does the 'large numbers' purely mean that it has the power of the many behind any action taken. It may be a shitty thing to do but what is making law is the illegal reaction of those who feel wronged. That opens a whole can of worms as regards feeling wronged. I liked the Colston statue and I hold our history dear for better for worse as many others do. The idea is not to make others angry it is to show disdain and antipathy for a belief. There is a distinct difference. The former is a rather shitty thing to do, the latter is free expression.

Well to be clear the 'illegal reaction of those who feel wronged' should be clamped down on too. And as in the more high profile cases it is pretty abhorrent reactions then life sentences should be considered.

That so many no longer want to be in deference to a hypocritical self serving CofE hierarchy in no way means millions and millions in Britain don't have a value system that is essentially Christian. Who's to say we would not have grown as a society without Christian values . Did our Pagan ancestors not have values ? I would say the did , held back by the enforcement of middle ages Christianity which was akin to modern day Islam . If you reject one then surely you have to reject the other . We are what we are with the values we all share not because of religion but in spite of it . Thanks to people like Steve we have blasphemy laws in this country once again. All that work to tame the Church in ye olde days has gone to waste. The sick Lefties are the destroyer of true enlightenment.

And as in the more high profile cases it is pretty abhorrent reactions then life sentences should be considered. However what Denmark is doing is to make the act that causes the illegal reaction illegal despite that act being acceptable in the whole context of Danish law. It boils down in essence to it is illegal to make people angry or more accurately it will be illegal to make some people angry. It makes me angry to see our history despoiled by many which was my point as regards the Colston statue. However the demonstrators did not do it to make me, and many others angry (as that would be a shitty thing to do), they did it because they did not like what that statue represented to others. Free expression is a valuable thing, the Danes are losing it due to pressure and illegal action from religious zealots and my point as always is that religions tend to try to hold sway over all even if they are a minority.

We are not allowed to insult Islam. It is associated with racism (witchcraft to the Left) and treated as a hate-crime. Remember when people would take the piss out of Christianity, even on TV? Remember Monty Python? It was like flogging a dead horse. Thanks to people like you, those who chopped a human beings head off for drawing a picture of Mo got the reaction they wanted. They got people like you screaming Islamophobe whilst insisting on blasphemy laws to appease the wrong sort of people. Fear and intimidation is what you rely on.

The blasphemy law is not on the statute book becasue it does not exist in law, it does exist in reality though as the Carlisle and the Gateshead book burners found out when police quizzed those involved as to the events. The Carlisle chap, I seem to recall, spent 70 days in prison for a public order offence I am unsure if the Gateshead people were apprehended however the police sought the book burners as book burners. If Blasphemy law comes in by way of public order law it is still a blasphemy law no matter how much others say it is not.

We haven't been a Christian country for decades. Who cares. The problem is that we're becoming a muslim country and that will destroy the culture of the country and turn it into a cesspit of violence and intolerance. We've already imported the muslim/hindu unrest from India/PAkistan.

..it is still a blasphemy law no matter how much others say it is not. No it isn't. Taken case by case, it's a Public Order offense. This covers "the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, writing or other visible representation." Last year, I had Sergeant Eldest Son (and a highly paid barrister - who was nowhere near as concise) give me the rundown on P.O Law, as our production is keen to stay on the right side of it (our portrayal of some Christian and Islamic sects is pretty much guaranteed to put supporters of any of them in a snit..).

I thought B4 hit the nail squarely on the head. Well in that case you'll be able to help B-4 out with Walter's question by showing us this supposed blasphemy law that's been put on our statute books. Can you? Won't hold my breath

As for your sad loser in Carlisle it was 12 years ago FFS and he was arrested for 'on suspicion of using racially aggravated threatening words or behaviour.' Do you need the word 'threatening' explained to you?

A public order law can function as a blasphemy law by categorising all blasphemy as a breach of public order.
Case solved?
This illustrates the danger of vague, billowing wide open law
