Priests fear churches will soon be extinct as Britain 'no longer a Christian country'
As far back as 1950 Parliament recognised it could not rely on christian tenets to constrain the behaviour of the english and welsh. When bringing in the Shops Act to control the opening of commercial retail enterprises in England and wales, parliament recognised the Scottish presbyterian and Northern Irish Catholic and protestant churches would never permit the worship of mammon on the Sabbath By 1973 as B&Q argued in court their sales of paint could be for painting caravans and thus legal, north of the border the bells of tbe kirk wete drowned by the bells of the tills in Prince’s Street.

Christianity has been in decline in this country for decades, and no wonder with priests and bishops dictating to the rest of us, telling us how we should live, and what we should, or should not be allowed to do.
I have no time for either Christianity or Islam, but I will ALWAYS stand up and defend a Christian or Muslim persons right to practice their faith freely and without fear or prejudice.
The fact that Christianity is dying out does not bother me, and like other posters have said, it has no bearing on me or my life.

Which religion will rule the world in 2070? The world's population will grow by 37 per cent over the same period. If those rates of growth continue past 2050, Muslims will outnumber Christians by 2070, the report found.
The writing is on the Wall.
The illegal boat people are making that ^^ predication right.
No religion will rule the world in 2070. Governments will rule the world. It's not the Middle Ages anymore.

To make that comparison reasonable and fair, you would have to be reasonably happy to live in Iran. Two systems can have technical similarities and not have remotely the same outcomes.. Unlike you I make no comparison. I just observe that for years I’ve though reserving seats in the UK’s legislature for clerics a strange anomaly. I’d have no case if they were elected — or even appointed because of some perceived personal achievement or quality. It’s their shoe-in to their seats as a right when they have no role that I find quaint and risible… They get selected 26 in total after long service in their diocese , when they take their seats in the Lords they can join in debates, vote, discuss legislation just the same as the rest until they reach the ago of 70 years, then they must step down, one has to be in the Lords every day it sits to conduct morning prayers to open the Lords It goes back years

Not if you're a priest.. (Personally, I see it as a good news story. Now we just need to hope other religions will join the decline.) A bit of a forlorn hope as now we have finally released ourselves from the stultifying effects of the domination of the Christian churches in our daily lives we now find that another Abrahamic religion is intent on being dominant through legal and illegal means. There is every right for an individual to follow any religion he so wishes, however as with all other freedoms that right must not impinge on another's rights to do the same even if that right is insulting in their view to any specific religion. Circles steadfastly refuse to be squared.

Indeed, Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 and, in the second half of this century, will likely surpass Christians as the world's largest religious group
Don't take my word for it ............. Google it.

So what? Religions don't govern the UK. They only have power over you if you want them to have it.

Lefties are scoring an own goal if they want to boot Christian clerics out of politics . CofE clerics are the most ‘ liberal style lefties “ people you can meet . The CofE have given up on fornication , masterbation, homosexuality and other leftie hobby horses . Let alone the nuclear family , trans gender issues ,abortion and some even question the divinity of Christ afaik . The template of CofE clergy seems to be the vicar of dibley .

The UK isn't going to have an Islamic revolution. Get a grip man, where's your British stiff upper lip? Where's your faith in western democracy gone?

Where's your faith in western democracy gone? You made a statement that was pulpably wrong . Religious dogma can be forced upon others and often is . Islam is fast becoming more relevant than Christianity. You have no idea what might happen in the religious vacuum created by the demise of Christianity . Personally I wouldn’t trust lefties to hold firm against an Islamic revolution.
