An open mind zone is a brave experiment. I hope it thrives. An open mind needs an open mind zone in order to absorb the diversity of opinion that exists in human considerations on the conundrum of why we are here and why we seem so useless at maintaining any of the wonderful things we have created. Why we keep killing one another and stealing and dominating and misbehaving when we might be doing other things that are more positive.
Some, for example, believe that war is glorious and achieves great things whereas others think it is barbarous and stupid and achieves little. Some think they are superior to others and that this must be expressed at all times in case people forget that this is only an opinion, open to controversial beliefs that often amount to self fulfilling prophecies and tend to end up among the ruins of attempts to prove them.
Te-da, te-da .... so much to talk and think about. Is anyone willing to give openness a go?

Vanna..wb The way we are attempting to run mind zone is consistent with your notion. In mind zone the tone and scope of a conversation is set by the creator of the thread. The thread can have any subject (within reason) If you wish to start a thread with a particular tone or subject area, just outline your wishes in the opening post in mind zone. On the subject of openness, i think this is the same as honesty. If you are honest, you are attempting to really see why you disagree with another person. This may not come out in your communication, but it should be in your thoughts

Hi Vanna … A warm welcome back! … Provox and Sword were sadly ousted … but we hope they will be invited back.
Baron and I are surprisingly still here … just clinging on desperately as excess ballast … preparing to be jettisoned any minute … after surviving several ‘suspensions’. … still doing our thing to broaden the palate for the open minded …
As you can see Fringe Meetings was sadly labelled “Conspiracy Theory” … but some of us are lobbying for that to be reversed.
…. We were successful finally getting the Mind Zone open to non-Members and Guests … guess that might change again if I have time to engage and throw some Fringe stuff in there!
How is stability in SA right now … hope ur surviving ok??
I know from talking to a politically split Family that asking people to be “open minded” is a big ask …. they say “yes” in principle, quite willingly …. and pretend they are ….but rarely practice studying links dropped here and elsewhere … that might upset their ‘programming’.

Hi Dubdrifter SA is battling at the mo. Power cuts every day, water problems because of power cuts. Coldest winter in 10 years. Strikes that have turned violent. Garbage piling up, etc. But there has been a big BRICS summit and things look interesting for the future attempt to break ties from American and EU domination on the economic front. The future will not be to the liking of those who have had so much power in the west and created so much havoc and war. They will cling onto what power they have left and I suspect their tactics will be dirty. But change cannot be rejected once it has taken hold and it is on the cards. Some will just have to accept it. I deleted my account so am here as a "guest" and can't see any of the forum closed to non-members and can't post anywhere but here. There is plenty to put on a mind zone thread. See you here, hopefully. Sorry Provox and Sword got the chop. But they were on the side that clashes with the establishment.

I was having an interesting chat with someone whose father was an engineer with Rand 50+ years ago (US/Dutch Mining?) … he died in mysterious circumstances so they returned to UK … but the debate was over whether the Chinese recently were better Colonialists in their relationship with Africa and resource exploitation … or were America and Europe better at Community Support? … what has been your observations since China became No.1 at sourcing the raw materials Worldwide for it’s “industrial revolution”.??

If I see anything open minded I will surely show an interest.

If I see anything open minded I will surely show an interest. Ok then, how long do you wait before you judge something as good or bad within your own constraints?

DD, Africa is onside with Russia and China. Big investments coming. The old colonial times are a festering sore so the new BRICS era will go a long way to heal some of that and allow Africa to prosper in its own right. Oil has been discovered along the coast of Namibia. They are asking for investment in new ports, etc. Boom times coming. Congo has big deposits of cobalt. Boom boom. Guess who will be getting in on these materials? On new railways and energy plants. All to play for. India is a manufacturing giant at the moment. Russia's military is not that far off America's now, apparently, but you won't hear that on western media. They tell you the Russians are fighting with shovels. It's quite mad. But say anything and you will be silenced and abused. As you know. The world is turning east and a new age is dawning. That cannot be denied. I agree with you that the UK needs to throw off its shackles of the old money domination and carve a new path for itself. Stop being the world's dumping ground for unhappy and opportunistic souls, stop all this woke rubbish, stop butchering young bodies in the utterly horrific gender transition fad and find the old courage and dignity Britain once had. It's hardly recognisable now. People think of it a country full of drunken youth and vegan saints all pushing crazy legislation to silence every voice of protest. Tragic. But the only way to change things is to change things and to have the will to do so. The Ukrainian conflict has been a disaster. End it as soon as possible by not tacitly participating in it.

Very interesting Vanna I guess SA is looking at taking new directions for the future, I get the feeling rather than that happen in the UK the old guard would lay waste to the place. Which I don't know if it is inadvertently you point out.

The wounds are deep in Africa, not really only because of colonialism, but because of the attitude to the oppressed people. That was a horror story I had to witness. So now, the "free borns" as the new generation call themselves, are looking at what they can do and be, something denied to them for a long time. Even the offspring of whites who were part of the apartheid regime are finally able to get shot of that period. It's a new world for them and people actually get along very well. A vast improvement on the past. There are a lot of residual problems, corruption and whatnot, but these may fall away as the new era takes hold as investment tends to go where things are stable, so politicians will have to buck up and stop behaving as though Versailles had returned.

I have always seen a better future for everyone if certain things were no longer in operation. I remain a staunch believer in sovereign nation states and the freedom for people to identify with various cultures and religions. I do not believe in multiculturalism as it has been practised and promoted by the neo Frankfurters and I see disaster for the UK if it doesn't put a stop to this. The new era is purported to be one of a "multi-polar" world. We shall see. I have not got over anything but have instead given up on a good few things and people as they are not going to stop flogging a dead horse.
South Africa at the moment is practising reverse racism, discrimination and job reservation and is therefore getting to be a lot like the hated predecessor. (This often happens.) It is so bad now that the government made a few noises about how it has left out the Asian, Coloured and White communities. It possibly has no intention of doing anything about it but perhaps it felt it should make a few noises in the light of the BRICS summit recently in Johannesburg. People are being made to go on pension early so they can be replaced with young females in a lot of places. Many are now too young to retire and too old to get jobs elsewhere. The pendulum swung back too far, as it often does.
Personally, I detest politics and politicians tend to reflect a swamp of nepotism, graft, fascism and materialism that is quite staggeringly opposite to the sort of things they say they believe in whenever there is going to be an election (and thereafter never mentioned again.) We are going to have one next year so the politicos are souping up their bs in order to crawl over the finishing line as they just have in Zimbabwe where they got only 52% of the vote and the opposition claims there has been cheating. (Of course there has.)
So, bearing in mind the dreary facts of human behaviour, I am not overly optimistic that certain problems will be solved. They possibly could be, but that would require an effort most politicians and their backers do not want to think about or allow into operation.
I now observe the circus to see if some of the clowns might be capable of supplanting the ringmasters and doing a better job. I don't hold my breath on account of the enormous sponsorship of backers who pull the strings of those they shove into power and keep there by hook or by crook. Mostly by crook.
Those who attacked me elsewhere merely did so because I am not a nazi or far right. Others did so because they enjoy kicking what isn't standing in front of them. The rest just sit there and eat popcorn. It's a sair fecht but sometimes miracles happen and someone gets up and cleanses the temple. Here's hoping ...

I don't have a Zimbabwean driver. We employ a Zimbabwean (55 years old and with a ten year old son to support) as a handyman once week to keep him alive.
Partner is getting ready to retire next year after which we shall be plunged into dire straits if we can't find something else to do to make money. Life here is hard and scary.
