Planes overflying London emit CO1, CO2, Nitrogen oxides, and other pollutants by the tonne and they are not subject to ULEZ. Diesel buses are not subject to ULEZ. Diesel trains are not subject to ULEZ. Adblue diesels still emit CO2 and they are not subject to ULEZ.
ULEZ is a crap policy.

The spin... ULEZ IS a Conservative policy ...and then there is reality.. Obviously a U Turn - ULEZ was drawn up by Boris Johnson and he planned to fully implement it, except that he was subsequently defeated and Sadiq Khan implemented it instead. You can spin this as much as you want, but you will not get away from the fact that ULEZ was, and is, a Conservative idea. The London mayoral candidate obviously sees an opportunity, such a person is called an Opportunist

Well done the Tories Your comparison is totally nonsensical The NHS was proposed by both Labour and Liberals and then implemented by a Labour government, with the Conservative Party oppsing its introduction. ULEZ was proposed by the then Conservative Mayor of London, who fully intended to introduce it in 2020, but it seems the Conservatives have now changed their minds, because quite clearly they can see Opportunity, they are political opportunists, and go with the flow.

( Wikipedia - the online encyclopedia ) >>> "The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is an area in London, England where an emissions standard based charge is applied to non-compliant vehicles. Plans were announced by London Mayor Boris Johnson in March 2015 for the zone to come into operation in September 2020. So a Conservative candidate in the London Mayoral election is vowing to scrap what a former Conservative mayor began. interesting Economic with the truth again i see The reality is a Conservative is going to scrap the money grabbing expansion by a labour twonk who cant see it’s losing them votes of a rather less expansive scheme introduced not without protest in a rather smaller area….

Sid, I notice you've deliberately missed the points I made about planes, trains and buses all being exempt from ULEZ charges, whilst contributing dramatically to air pollution.
And can you tell us, where does the money from the ULEZ charges go? Does the money go to planting trees in Brazil and other rainforest countries, or does it go on plugging holes in the TFL budget?

"The Mayor is spending more than £300 million to transform London’s bus fleet by retrofitting thousands of buses and committing to phase out pure diesel double-deck buses since 2018. We have announced 12 Low Emission Bus Zones, putting the greenest buses on the capital’s most polluted routes, with the first located in Putney High Street and Brixton Road. The zones are expected to reduce NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) emissions by 84 per cent and thousands of school children in these areas will benefit from cleaner air. Find out more about the other zones in London on Transport for London's (TfL) website". Dirty buses would be subject to a ULEZ charge. "Trains in the UK are powered by a mix of electricity and diesel fuel. According to Network Rail, nearly half of the UK rail network is now electrified – with more than 30 per cent of the stock using a ‘third rail’ to power the train. These rails are the darker, raised rails that you see on the track, which carry up to 750 volts, supplied by direct current electricity".

ULEZ ? My arse. IF he was serious about air pollution, he'd stop air pollution altogether. He knows it's not economically viable to do that but that hitting motorists is a cash cow. And none of the money raised is going on actually doing anything for the rainforests. Without the rainforests, we're in deep shit.

And can you tell us, where does the money from the ULEZ charges go? Does the money go to planting trees in Brazil and other rainforest countries, or does it go on plugging holes in the TFL budget? Diesel buses in London are gradually been phased out in favour of electric buses, but taking that fact aside, 30, 40 or 50 people in ONE vehicle ( a bus ) is supremely better for the environment that the same number of cars on the road. People with foresight get it - we have to make public transport more attractive, and using a car less attractive, this has to include better public transport, more frequent public transport and it has to include measures to discourage people from using cars and vehicles which cause the most polution. ULEZ is good, it does all of these things, its foreward thinking, I praise Boris Johnson for drawing up the plans, and I praise Sadik Khan for extending it to cover all of London. We are ahead in the world on this, and other world citys are pointing to London as the way to go.

Regarding electric buses and other eco buses. Better tech is required. Same for cars. Regarding the fees themselves: Does the money plug holes in TFL's budget, or does it stop trees being cut down in rainforest countries? Does it stop air pollution from airliners? Does it further impoverish the poorest in society? The cost of living is already sky high in our country and has been getting worse for decades. There are other ways than the ULEZ policy. And, if the money does not stop rainforests being cut down, what will? My suggestion: Tell the governments of rainforest countries that their forests are vital to the future of the planet and must be protected, if they need money from the developed world to guarantee the survival of those forests, they can negotiate. The developed world has money. But, if they do nothing, and they continue to destroy those forests, climate sanctions will be imposed.
