Unlike the left snowflakes I use the truth not lies. Maybe you would be good enough to enlighten me on what war is it that the frogs are fighting? Or do you deem frogland as a safe country? Whether or not France is a safe country is completely irrelevant. Migrants crossing France as they cross other borders, have no connection with France. No French passports or ID cards. No tax code. No address. No place of work. No right to work. France has no connection with them. The French police has no obligation to guard, protect or process them. Getting into a boat on a beach does not break French law. Nor does France have any obligation to receive them. Now pre Brexit, France and the UK came to a voluntary agreement to return migrants to the continent because the continent had an overall policy to try to spread the load of huge numbers of migrants into the EU according to population and resources... a policy the UK refused to support. And finally the Dublin Agrerment with France making possible your desire to post the parcels back to their last post office, was anulled by Brexit, and you promised to patrol/control your own borders. Another populist lie of course. So why isnt the Brexit government controlling its own borders? Why does it keep nagging France ( not Libya or Germany or the Netherlands or Spain or Italy or Greece through which many have passed...just France) for help when France has NO legal responsibility for these people. That starts when they apply for asylum. This is a perfect example of gross populist lack of understanding international law, the blockheaded lunge for the most simplistic solution to the same problems everyone else has. Both France and Germany make it a legal requirement to take decisions on asylum applications of 6 months. And there is no appeal. The UK does not have such a law. Why not? It would speed up the system, but remove all those excuses the government uses to throw red meat to racists and foreigners, not to mention increasing the general anti EU bigots' sentiments which they need to stretch out as long as they can because that has been their identity and raison d'etre. They havent done much else except cover up their cockups. That wouldnt be you, would it?

Yesterday on this board we had members thinking that people didn't become asylum seekers until they had been granted asylum. Today we have the myth of being required to seek asylum in first safe country.
That's the problem.
100% opinion with 0% understanding.

How did the Ukrainians get here without crossing a safe country? same way anyone gets here who has a valid visa - Ryanair in the main. Oh don't talk rubbish. They did not apply for visa's before fleeing the war and coming to the UK.

I do think that the reading of the 1958/65 UN convention on refugees should be required in every school in the country.

Most of them have had the law explained to them a dozen times. I could understand if they were arguing the law was wrong, but its just deliberate stupidity to keep claiming its something different.

A refugee should by requirement seek asylum in the first safe country they reach, if for some reason they don't receive it they are then free to try elsewhere. Me thinks there is a twisting of the law going on.

They did - no Ukrainian was allowed in until they had been given leave to enter. Until that happened they waited where they were. Now if you are suggesting that we treat all migrants the same as Ukrainians and make them wait overseas until they have been granted asylum I would find myself in total agreement.

It doesn't matter what I think or know, it matters that they think they can lie and get around the facts for some unknown benefit to themselves, which is pie in the sky, it has no benefit for themselves, like lying about migrants having the same status as a refugee it is just muddying the water.

We have no connection with them either and putting them on a plane to Rwanda wouldn’t be against the law if we leave the echr which is what is threatened.

Yes. They fled to neighbouring countries and then we gave them permission to come to the UK. Perhaps that's how we should treat other refugees? That would stop the boats. Either way are you agreeing with Jonsky that refugees must by law seek asylum in the first safe country they arrive in.

No, but since January 2021 asylum claims can be deemed inadmissible if the claimant has a demonstrable connection to a safe country.
