That may be the case but why is it largely young men escaping these wars and starvation. Woman, children and the elderly are much less able to cope with the privations you mention yet are left to fend for themselves by the very people best equipped and morally responsible for their protection. Because they can. Fact is there are a number of wars in Africa at the moment and even more extreme terrorist groups. See we're still running the same old rubbish about being safe in France etc. I think it’s comic how many times folks have had the law explained. And the law needs changing. Because they can? So sod the women and children. |

They were a smaller scale (about quarter the size on two stories) but could have several hundred people on board on occasions as well as all sorts of loose fittings and cables. To my recall there were only two narrow gangplanks to shore. No one seemed concerned as regards fire safety but then most of us were just ordinary Brits. That's a very different proposition. Open plan, no one sleeping there, Its not about getting to the shore, its about getting out of the building. Once you're out on deck you're safe. And I can assure you ordinary Brits are well serviced by our fire services. You should see the hoops my company has to jump through. Dream on poor ordinary Brit. |

The young men were not there because they were trying to stop the danger. When the Hugeunots escaped across the channelt to England they sent their woman and children first, a dictum that was alive then and been in moral force since the wreck of the Medusa. |
