Government and establishment institutions are always slow to admit mistakes and pay full compensation — look at the Post Office Horizon scandal where faulty equipment and software put people in prison, and the contaminated blood scandal that probably put over 2000 haemophiliacs in the ground...

Let's not forget that they were invited to come here to provide a solution to post war shortages of labour.
They were British subjects perfectly entitled to live and work in Britain.

I would have thought the reason they got compo is indeed because they are black. It would have been racist not to cough up. The statement was ''their own stupidity''. I'm waiting to hear why they were stupid. Were they stupid to think they would be treated fairly by a Conservative government because they were black? I can believe that. Further to Handymans comment the immigrants didn't get clarification on their legal status for either themselves or their children . Some did , got British passports or leave to remain . The problem came about with the changes in immigration law that saw people without documentation revert to their previous status . That being their country of origin . I ask you who would go and live in another country without clarifying their legal status ? As I said, stupid |
