If you don't like it just turn it off. So simple, innit? But no, you will continue to denigrate others. It saddens me how grown men can find the most trivial of things to debate, Exactly what you do, Mr BvL! Well done!

Exactly what you do, Mr BvL! Well done! Got any examples or are we just talking shit as usual? Of course. "I often sample what Radio 4 are saying at random times. After 1 am it is the World Service. The last sample, I listened to out of incredulity. You see they do a business report, and this report spent ages and ages with all these different journalists discussing Their twitter logo. The depth of academic enquiry into the aesthetics of it was mind boggling. I've never heard such "educated" people investigate something so bloody trivial and idiotic as this" "I often sample what Radio 4 are saying at random times. After 1 am it is the World Service. The last sample, I listened to out of incredulity." I often sample what Radio 4 are saying at random times. After 1 am it is the World Service. The last sample, I listened to out of incredulity.

This is how I learn how fucked up they really are. I don't need to do it that often. The samples are for the purpose of searching for anything that may be interesting, but I rarely do that now. I suggest you stop your judgmental attitude. Learn to respect other's point of view.

I apologise for the frivolity but I still think you have not grasped the nettle. Let's move on.

I don't have all this satellite TV, freeview, digital radio etc. I have one radio by the side of me that does MW/LW/SW/FM and FM is the only proper quality out of those, and on the FM band it is all shit. In fact the most unlistenable radio station on the entire FM bans is Heart FM. Why I listen to it is I have to shop for supplies in a local hardware shop and it is intolerable. No wonder people are brain dead. It's like all the DJs are on coke. I'm sure the Soviet union had it better than this country regarding radio.

The beeb has its faults but does do some good stuff,if you want to see how far some media can fall look no further than Rupert Murdochs empire. Rupert's empire doesn't fleece the taxpayer to exist. Most people feel compelled to buy the licence, which is nothing more than a tax. Sky lovers have a choice, AND have to buy a licence. It's unjust. There is a cost to Rupert empire and any large media owned by an individual, It may not always be apparent but the influence wielded is hiding in plain sight, people like Murdoch hate the bbc,as I said the beeb has its faults but is the favoured whipping boy. Most countries have state broadcasters but unlike the beeb are funded indirectly by tax,you are right the licence fee is a tax and a visible one other countries just hide the funding in general taxation. At least the beeb have some public accountability, try complaining to commercial stations you’ll get nowhere as I have found out.

There are many advantages to not having to chase ratings with the kind of lowest common denominator programming the commercial broadcasters have to produce. No one else produces the sort of educational programs the BBC is famous for.

There is an argument to fund from general taxation as people who would otherwise not pay tax are paying the licence fee. True, but they have become climate obsessed in every piece of output, a bit like Sky News.

The very first thing that struck me about the - Opening Post - was the £400 Million which is stated as been the cost of running an online news service for West Africa, I immediately called this into question.
I reckon that ... Dan Dare ... has picked up some missleading information, probably from one of those anti BBC, right wing populist websites or so called "news providers".
The TOTAL cost to the government for BBC World Service is £254 million per year, that is for operating the entire BBC World Service.
Been a world power can mean many things, a military power, an economic power, or cultural power, and no country projects its cultural power better than the UK.
I have stated this before on these boards, but all of us, Left leaning or Right leaning, should be proud of our BBC, it is the most listened to and most trusted source of news and information on the plannet, and it is the most important tool there is for promoting British culture.
