The professionals know that the “threat of Rwanda” will make negligible difference to people seeking to claim asylum in the UK. The "Threat of Rwanda" will make absolutely no difference I agree. But if the threat were every turned into reality it would stop it dead. That's what happened in Australia - the only example we have to go on. They were also inundated by boats but they made an agreement with Papua New Guinea and they actually prevented the boats from landing in Australia. They were either towed or taken on board an Australian ship and taken to Papua New Guinea. Obviously the Australian govt was vilified for doing this but they just ignored it. And the boats stopped within 3 weeks. |

But if the threat were every turned into reality it would stop it dead. That's what happened in Australia - the only example we have to go on. Even the Government doesn't believe that "rwanda" would deter people claiming asylum here. Its just a (extraordinarily expensive) gimmick for the gullible and the tabloids. Will be dropped after the next election if (seemingly highly unlikely) the Tories retain power.

The huge problem of tens of thousands of illegals landing on English beaches will not be stopped for one simple reason, the only people who can stop it are the EU/French, and they don't want it stopped. As we all know, the UK must be punished for Brexit.
Since the Rwanda plan hasn't even started, people who say it will never work are quite obviously talking out of their arse. What they mean is, they don't want it work. It seems pretty obvious that if illegals know they will be flown to Africa once they reach England they would be less likely to pay people smugglers thousands of euros to get them across the channel.
