And the governments talk about "affordable housing" rather than "social housing", which is not the same thing. It fucking is to the imported criminals Hash.

In 13 years of Conservative government there has not been any plan or effort to build social housing in the numbers which are required. Nor did Labour whilst they allowed mass immigration to spiral, cut interest rates, abolished TESSA savings options and caused a house price boom. The very first thing the Labour government did upon coming to office in May 1997 was to make The Bank Of England independent of the Treasury. Immigration has little to do with the housing shortage, and by far the biggest contributor to immigration was the Conservative government of both Margaret Thatcher and John Major, who between them took part in negotiations towards signing The Maastricht Treaty which allowed for Freedom Of Movement. It is ALWAYS Conservative governments who argue AGAINST regulation and FOR the Free Market, often calling sensible regulations "red tape". As Gordon Brown rightly said "you cannot regulate against financial instability without international agreement" What would be the point of regulating against HSBC if HSBC (US) falls outside of the UK regulations, but any fallout would be contagious.

The very first thing the Labour government did upon coming to office in May 1997 was to make The Bank Of England independent of the Treasury. And what a mistake that was. Also, abolishing the TESSA savings account, selling off our gold at rock bottom prices, deflating other savings and investment options and basically leaving bricks and mortar as the only choice for investments, was INSANE. Immigrants require housing, same as everyone else. Seasonal workers, coming here for short term work, did not buy, but rented. This pushed up rental prices.

Yes you would like that. Maybe you would be happy if we all moved to another country to make room for these unwanted imports. But you will never be happy will you? If you had half a brain cell you'd know I am against further immigration and in favour of a Rwanda type scenario for asylum seekers. But sadly you haven't.

Excuse me for assuming you knew I meant free at the point of use. That's why I said immigrants would pay taxes but not get the benefits immediately. Why is conversation with you always so dull. Depends who I'm talking to. Not really. But feel free to talk to others and leave me out.

You get shot down on one madcap wokeefty BS cause and then look for another lefty woke cause to beat your drum.

In 13 years of Conservative government there has not been any plan or effort to build social housing in the numbers which are required. Social housing means affordable homes to rent The one Prime Minister who is more responsible than any other for the present housing crisis is Margaret Thatcher, because the building of council / local authority houses largely ended after she came to power in 1979. To be fair, the governments of both Blair and Brown did little better We have got to get away from this ridiculous Tory idea that building ONLY affordable home to buy is the only answer, it is not, there has got to be large numbers of homes to rent, at fair rents. We have had a shortage of good affordable housing since WW2 when the population was much smaller that it is today, Council Tenants have had the right to buy their Council property long before that the problem being nobody told them that, when Thatcher came to power she made them aware and many did buy their Council Property. We have never had a time when enough affordable housing was available, the Tories have built more Social Houses than Labour have , Councils transferred their responsibility for their Housing as they could not afford to make repairs , and struggled to collect rents to Housing Associations, Labour when in power also sole them off Today as the population is over 65 million and expected to reach 70 million in the next few years, we will be even more short of affordable Housing , freedom of movement , illegal migrants, and alleged Asylum seekers who arrive in their hundreds every week means we cannot house them as well as thousands of the indigenous people many of whom have been on a waiting list for years. Due to demand outstripping demand supply for Social Accommodation, private rental the rents are high very high , the price of buying a home has gone through the roof, we cannot build fast enough to supply demand , we are also running out of land where we can build, out infrastructure is close to collapsing, the SE and South is in danger of running out of water, let alone houses The average rent for a flat in London is £2,000 plus bills . But when the generation of oldies on here bought our homes they were worth 3 to 4 times our annual income. Now a new home will cost 9 to 11 times your annual income. That suggests the shortage is far worse than it was. Asylum seekers are a distraction, not the cause. The cause is LEGAL immigration, the invitation for half a million people to move here every year without building the homes to house them. Artificially increasing the price of land much of which is owned by the rich. I disagree on us running out of land, only 12% of available land is built on. We could decide the be more dependent of importing food and release some of the 20 million acres of arable land for building. At an average of 18 dwellings to an acre 222,000 acres would do it for 4 million homes. Leaving 19,778,000 acres of arable. We could easily do it, we just don't want to.

Almost all seasonal workers stayed is temporary accommodation on the farm. Caravans and portacabins.

Helping deliver in Ukraine while taking out imaginary heat pumps in England. Dear oh dear. I have never been against the Rwanda idea. Even back on the old forum I was suggesting we place processing centres in third countries and treat anyone arriving here directly as a criminal. Trouble with idiots like yourself is everything has to be black and white or you can't understand it.
