The government being those who are always in power whoever you think you are voting for, know full well the likes of Sweden have cottoned on while they continue to frustrate any effort to lift the UK and prepare the plebs for the future. Without it being controlled completely via Brussels. I agreed with Pacifico on a compromise. Not to scrap our efforts to reduce climate change. To delay the demise of ICE cars and Gas boilers by 5 years. That would bring us back in line with Brussels who were 5 years behind us. We have seen delays in the reduction of Co2 due to the production bounce back in China after covid and the war in ukraine forcing countries to temporarily return to using coal. For those of us who think Global warming is real and has serious consequences, this is unfortunate, but I'm a realist. We can only hope that we stop the warming before real damage is done, this is a long haul. Its a long haul for those who are paying for this farce that will have no impact whatsoever to our natural events of climate change.

The EU offered us a 4 year moratorium on FoM. Compromise. The EU offered Ireland an opt out on abortion rules in the Lisbon treaty. Compromise. The Eu runs almost entirely on fudge and compromise.

Also please read the posts properly, we are not governed by the EU. The EU are phasing out ICE vehicles in 2035. The UK are phasing out ICE vehicles in 2030.Nothing to do with the EU. MY compromise with Pacifico was to change our timeline to match theirs.

To give us time to adjust our housing and benefits system so that we became less attractive to unskilled European labour. Moratorium: A temporary suspension of an activity or law

You live in an area where you should know that before F0M officially started, there were already thousands of migrants working in the produce industry, either pickers or packers. You can say it was our fault but there was no political. will to stop it. Blair didn't give two hoots that the produce companies were threatening to shift their work to Spain and elsewhere.

Cameron fully understood the need for FoM in a truly free trade market. You can't have some countries able to undercut neighbours because they pay less. The ability to move between states ensures this can't happen.

What was wrong with pickers and packers doing jobs we didn't want to do? Why would produce companies threaten to shift to Spain if they were getting the pickers and packers they needed. I can see why they might when the pickers were banned from the country. All the orchards around here are being grubbed up.

No it doesn't, not with true free trade in all products.
