Well TBF it has a lot more to say than that. Care to expand? Just one of many hurdles highlighted

Just one of many hurdles highlighted As I say, its all about assuming the battery has a very short life, but most batteries are destined to last 20 years and even then go on to be re-used rather than recycled. www.rac.co.uk/drive/electric-cars/charging/how-long-do-electric-car-batteries-last/However, drivers can expect upwards of 10 years or 100,000 miles of use – with reports of twice that distance – from an electric car. As such, the lifespan of an EV is not dissimilar to a conventional petrol or diesel model. Battery degradation won’t hugely affect the EV’s performance in terms of acceleration, refinement or cruising ability. It will lessen the range, but even an eight-year-old Nissan Leaf may only see losses of around 20% versus new, according to independent tests. And batteries on cars like mine carry intelligent chips that prevent them charging or depleting fully, a big one in extending battery life.

Mass electric vehicle batteries haven’t been around long enough to test that out. Also that is only one of many problems highlighted in that article.

Its like we can talk about the damage open cast mining of Lithium, but not worry about the years of damage caused by extracting oil.

But batteries don't have those drawbacks unless you make the assumptions. Neither as I pointed out does hydrogen provided its manufactured using clean energy. Difference being I have not assumed otherwise so as to dismiss it.

I haven’t dismissed them, you said that article had been misquoted and I replied that apart from the landfill bit it had listed many other potential problems, you asked me to cite one so I did (there are others) I’m just relating points in that article that didn’t just centre around the landfill issue.

I said it was misquoted on the other thread. The word IF was replaced with HAVE So "If thousands of these batteries end up in land fill" Turned into "thousands of batteries have ended up in landfill. " All the other parts are ifs as well.

The point is electric cars are in their infancy, the infernal combustion engine has been around a long time long enough to know what works or doesn’t. Lets face it like much else the poor pleb has been led up the garden path more than once, is it really is that long ago we were told buy a diesel it’s great?then hybrids (I’ve got one) now they’re not good enough and for all you quote who is signing up to this is it not true to say that the eu is now backtracking?

The reason I seem defensive is the amount of people on here who point to this. Lithium mining As environmental vandalism. While never having bothered about this Nigeria's oil pollution

Well you have no need to be defensive, your opinion is as valid as anyone else’s unless totally ridiculous which it clearly isn’t.
Even the ridiculous has its place as so many of our alleged betters in Westminster can surely attest too.

One thing we definitely agree on is that those who bought the very early electric cars for 20k have caught a cold as very few people now want an electric car with a range of 80 to a 100 miles.
You own a hybrid? Plug in or self charging?

It seems the tide may have turned.
The best-selling car in the world in the last year was not a Toyota ICE model, which took slots 2 to 5, but the Tesla Model Y. Helped no doubt by Musk's master-stroke of siting his European giga-factory in Germany.
The demise of the EV may have been much exaggerated.

It's being legislatively forced on many western populations, so i don't see how the tide could turn. Perhaps later in the process, when the rioting starts?
